How to fit a Short shifter on a R33 gtr/Gtst
by Skyline boy, 28-12-2020, 08:07 AM
Right, here goes, a guide to replacing your standard shift, to a short shift!

This is on an R33 gtst. Should take no longer than an hour to do this, tops!

Tools required: -

-Long nose pliers.
-Flat head screwdriver.
-Posi screwdriver.
-Hammer.
-5mm allen key.
-file/sandpaper.

First remove the gearknob and surround. unplug the connectors on the cigarette lighter.

Then, undo the four screws around the gearstick,

Pull off the rubber gaitor and surround.

Next you see this, remove the cable tie around the bottom of the rubber gaitor, and pull up to show the underneath, where you find two sets of circlips.

Remove the larger of the two circlips, i prised the outside one out using a screwdriver, flick the edge and out and work your way round,

Once it "pings" out, you can then pull out the gearstick.with the other circlip and gearstick all in one.

It then look like this!

Next pull out the middle section, mine was a little stiff so used so pliers to ease it out. Beneath this is a funny washer, almost spring like, take this out too,

The washer/spring.

Now the fun bit!!

Take your new shiny(in my case) Japspeed short shift kit, take the aluminium circle,

Place it in the hole where spring came out, mine needed a gentle tap in, its a perfect fit once its in.

Then refit the washer, and the plastic section as shown below.

The tricky bit, on the end of my new shifter section, the nylon part was ever so slightly bigger, needs just a bit of filing to make it fit or get the old one off the original shifter.

****TIP****
Remove the plastic section and check the nylon part at the bottom of the shifter fits first as its a bit tricky to get in the hole! once you have checked it fits ok, take out the new shifter and re-fit the plastic section.

Uncrew the new shifter and place and nylon circle so it sits on top of the "ball" at the end of the new shifter, make sure the groove is sitting downwards, you'll find out why later on!

Now place the new shifter into the hole, this is bit fiddly!!! You dont need the old circlips so dont worry about those.

Next, place the square metal section over the gear shifter, grab the semi circular parts from the new kit, and place underneath metal surround. screw together using the allen bolts provided, You will need a 5mm allen key for this.
Repeat on both sides, and do up all 4 screws.

Take off the old rubber gaitor from the standard shifter, will need a bit of gentle persuasion,(or a bit of a slice with a knife!) and place over the new shifter, although this is not necessary but i thought id replace it for a bit of sound deadening.

Replace the other gearstick surround, using the four screws you took out.

Replace the gearknob and surround. Now take it for a spin and enjoy!!

Skyline boy's Skyline R33 drag car.
by Skyline boy, 28-12-2020, 07:37 AM
Hey peeps,

Here is my car, started life as a standard R33 when I got it, nothing done to it to all, to what you see at the end... It's a working progress.. I love drag racing, have a mate with a white Evo 7, we are pretty much neck and neck, his best 12.9 mine being 13.1.

It's off to Abbey Motorsport in a couple of weeks to be mapped again, looking for 450 at the hubs. So about 500 at the engine?

New injector loom I made up, ready for my 1000cc injectors to go in,

New fuel rail to go with the new injectors

I'm having line lock fitted too, should make it easier to do burnouts before I hit the start line.

Promised I'd start a full project thread so here we go. Purchased clean and unmolested almost 3 years ago, very well looked after by the previous owner, only the exhaust and wheels needed a clean up really.

[Image: utf-8BSU1HMDAwMDEtMjAxMDA0MjYtMTgwM.jpg]

First thing was to replace the horrible Paradas with Hankook RS2s and get a new exhaust to replace the damaged one. Bit of research pointed me in the direction on Mongoose due to having an adjustable B-Pipe which would allow me to switch to a JDM manifold and shorter cat at a later date without issue.

Next was a day at Santa Pod proving to some friends that 12 year old Jap **** was still better than their modified Fiesta STs. Best time of the day was a 14.6, a whole second faster than the STs on the day.

Still having the standard intake, I decided to try out a Long Arm AEM CAI which was awesome. Pulled harder in VTEC and really sounded like an animal. Back to the Pod again and ran a 14.4 this time.

At some point I had the horrible idea of sticking some massive side stripes on. Saw a similar design on some JDM FD2s and slightly changed it to include the more retro Rs.

Couple of on track photos from Snetterton

Sadly, the AEM CAI had to go. I got a bit fed up removing it every time we had heavy rain after almost hydro locking the engine on the M6. Not a good moment. Decided at the same time I really disliked the stripes so they came off and were replaced with a simple gloss black roof wrap.

Seeing as the engine bay was now looking a bit tired I went for a diy rising sun job on the valve cover.

Finally got round to refurbing the wheels as well. They were getting worse and worse while I kept putting it off so I could get some TE37s but recently it got to the point where I was checking tyre pressures daily. As the cost was exactly the same to have them redone in Championship White, I looked at some other options and in the end chose Candy Red over some sort of glitter coat. Not to everyone's taste but I like them and they are different.

They did make the callipers look tatty though so I painted them red as we had some lying around. Not sure red goes too well but for now it's fine.

Just need to repaint the centre caps and get some new 'H' decals.

Can I?
by James S, 26-12-2020, 09:55 AM
Just a quick question.....

I use my iPhone for everything now including music and web.

I have an app radio head unit in my car, but since I've got an iPhone 5, it no longer works because of the new connector on the bottom.

So my question is this, I have a spare car amp knocking about I have never got round to fitting. Can I fit it, wire up my speakers to it. And just run a head phone cable from it and into my iPhone?

Bypassing the need for a head unit.

no turbo's or stupid powers with loud exhausts, but a more subtle approach of v8 beauty and automatic lol Wink
i've gone out and bought the toyota soarer 4.0 v8 gt Wink in black (although resprayed from red) with the even rarer full on black leather Wink

apart from needing a new alternator i absolutely love it so far.
few things have changed inmy life since xmas time so i am travelling up and don the motorway a lot more. although i can't see this being cost effective at least it will be comfortable Wink

Hi all, as a lover of all things Jap, I've been looking for forums/clubs to get involved with and thought I'd give this place a try.

Currently drive an Integra DC2 and picking a DC5 up later on in the year to go with it.
