The tweet smell of success: Nissan is first European carmaker to sell a car on Twitte

Nissan dealer Antamotor uses Twitter to sell X-Trail crossoverFrom shortlist to delivery details, all customer communication carried out via social networkNissan dealer exemplifies the brand's five-point Customer Promise and commitment to innovationBARCELONA, Spain – Nissan has become the first automotive brand in Europe to sell a vehicle exclusively through the use of social networking site Twitter. From first contact with the client to the final decision to purchase – just six days later – all communication between flagship Galician dealer Antamotor and customer Raul Escolano took place digitally via the social media platform.Known to the dealership as user @escolano, he first courted car companies using the hashtag #compraruncocheportwitter (in English, 'buy a car on Twitter').Escolano threw down the gauntlet to automotive brands across Spain, challenging them to support him in buying a vehicle, solely through the use of social networks.Nissan, via leading franchisee Antamotor in A Coruña, impressed Mr. Escolano with its innovative approach, using popular new platform Periscope to film the X-Trail, with the dealer presenting all of the vehicle's key features in a personalised walk-through which was uploaded to a live stream. Nissan then went head-to-head with rival models in a poll on Twitter, posed by Mr. Escolano, in which followers were asked to rate the cars on the shortlist. The survey, which received 2.6 million impressions (source: Brandwatch), ranked X-Trail ahead of its rivals with 43% of the vote, effectively helping Nissan to seal the deal. In the spirit of the truly innovative purchase, keys to the X-Trail were delivered direct to Mr. Escolano's home by courier, to complete the online transaction. The vehicle itself was collected from the brand's Spanish Headquarters, in the first face-to-face interaction between Nissan and the customer since the sale began two months ago.Embracing technology to improve service – the Nissan Customer PromiseToday's customers typically visit a dealership only once before an automotive purchase, down from five visits a decade ago, so it's clear that the online experience has never been more critical for automakers. In select markets, Nissan has also deployed innovative technologies like 'e-vision,' a video diagnostic tool for time-sensitive customers looking for greater transparency and clarity around their vehicle service. In October 2015, Nissan announced a new European customer experience initiative which is in fact one of the industry's broadest-reaching customer service transformation programmes. The five point Service Customer Promise includes 24/7 customer service contactability, lifetime Nissan assistance, service price match, a free transparent vehicle health-check, and free courtesy car with any service operation. It is the first time that an automaker has made a region-wide promise to its customers, signalling Nissan's commitment to leading the industry towards greater transparency when it comes to aftersales support, pricing and servicing. For more information about Nissan products, services and the brand's commitment to sustainable mobility, visit http://www.nissan.eu/experience-nissan.htmlABOUT NISSAN IN EUROPENissan has one of the most comprehensive European presences of any overseas manufacturer, employing more than 17,000 staff across locally-based design, research & development, manufacturing, logistics and sales & marketing operations. Last year Nissan plants in the UK, Spain and Russia produced more than 635,000 vehicles including award-winning crossovers, commercial vehicles and the Nissan LEAF, the world's most popular electric vehicle. Pursuing a goal of zero emissions and zero fatalities on the road, Nissan recently announced its Intelligent Mobility vision. Designed to guide Nissan's product and technology pipeline, this 360 degree approach to the future of mobility will anchor critical company decisions around how cars are powered, how cars are driven, and how cars integrate into society. Renault-Nissan Alliance delivers annual synergy target one full year ahead of schedul
by News Feeder, 25-05-2024, 11:56 AM
Renault and Nissan generated €4.3 billion in synergies in 2015, one year earlier than anticipated Purchasing, Engineering and Manufacturing were the top contributors to synergies Common Module Family and cross-production continue to reduce costs, while the development of technologies including autonomous drive and vehicle connectivity is expected to generate major savings moving forwardThanks to the convergence, the Alliance expects to generate at least €5.5 billion in synergies in 2018PARIS/YOKOHAMA - Renault-Nissan Alliance generated €4.3 billion in synergies in 2015, one year ahead of schedule and an increase of 13 percent from 2014. Purchasing, engineering and manufacturing were the main contributors.Renault and Nissan generate "synergies" by working together to reduce costs, avoid spending and increase revenue. Only new synergies — not cumulative — are taken into account each year. Synergies help Renault and Nissan meet their financial goals and deliver higher-value vehicles to customers.Renault and Nissan, which together sell one in 10 cars globally, converged four key functions in 2014: Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering & Supply Chain Management, Purchasing and Human Resources. While Renault and Nissan remain separate companies, each function is led by a common Alliance Executive Vice President."Convergence in four of our key business functions has resulted in creating value by reducing costs, avoiding expenses and increasing revenues. Thanks to the convergence, the Alliance expects to generate at least €5.5 billion in synergies in 2018," said Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.Common Module Family Common Module Family (CMF) is the Alliance's unique system of modular vehicle architecture and an increasing source of synergies. The Alliance is already reaping the benefits from CMF, reflected in the launch by Nissan of the Rogue in North America, the award winning Qashqai in Europe and the X-Trail in Japan and China. Renault also successfully launched the new Espace, the Kadjar, the new Megane and Talisman, all based on CFM-C/D.In 2015, Renault began selling the Kwid in India, followed by the launch of the Redi-Go by Datsun in mid-2016. Both are built in the Alliance's plant in Chennai, India, on the CMF-A architecture, which covers the smallest and most affordable category of cars."With the launch of Common Module Family-A, the Renault-Nissan Alliance demonstrates its ability to enter a very competitive market such as India, where only few OEMs succeeded to answer the local customers' requirement for modern and affordable cars," said Arnaud Deboeuf, Alliance Senior Vice President of Renault-Nissan BV and the Alliance CEO's Office.By 2020, the Alliance expects 70 percent of its vehicles to be built on CMF architectures.Cross-productionThe cross-production of vehicles will continue to be a major driver of manufacturing synergies. Cross-production leverages the Alliance Production Way, a manufacturing and shop-floor management system common to Renault and Nissan. The Alliance Production Way takes manufacturing benchmarks from both Renault and Nissan. In early 2016, Renault announced that it will produce the next-generation of Nissan's NV300 van at its plant in Sandouville, France. The Nissan NV300 will be manufactured on the same line as the new Renault Trafic.By the end of 2016, the Renault plant located in Flins, near Paris, will start the production of the new Nissan Micra. The AVTOVAZ plant in Togliatti, Russia, is the Alliance's biggest production base in the world, with capacity of nearly 1 million vehicles a year. The plant produces vehicles under four brands: Lada, Renault, Nissan and Datsun. The Alliance owns a majority stake in the joint venture that controls AVTOVAZ, Russia's largest automaker.Collaborative work on Electric Vehicles, Autonomous Drive and connectivityThe Renault-Nissan Alliance also announced that it will launch 10 models with Autonomous Drive technologies by 2020. This is in line with the Alliance's commitment to technological innovation and its focus on the twin goals of zero emissions and zero fatalities.Renault-Nissan is already the global leader in electric vehicles. The Alliance has sold more than 340,000 zero-emission vehicles since 2010.Renault and Nissan engineers are working together on the development of Autonomous Drive, connectivity and other next-generation technologies for mass-market, mainstream vehicles. By partnering on advanced research and development, Renault and Nissan are able to work more efficiently, with less cost. The Alliance has an annual research and development budget of about €4.5 billion. It has research centers in Atsugi, Japan; Guyancourt, France; Farmington Hills, Mich.; Sunnyvale, Calif.; and in India, Brazil, Romania, Turkey and China, among other locations. In January, the Alliance announced the introduction of a common Connected Vehicles and Mobility Services team that will ensure the swift implementation of connectivity applications that customers will experience across all Alliance brands. The team will also be introducing new mobility services on behalf of the Alliance. The Renault-Nissan Alliance has set as a priority to make synergies happen today while both companies work together for the future.ABOUT THE RENAULT-NISSAN ALLIANCE:The Renault-Nissan Alliance is a strategic partnership between Paris-based Renault and Yokohama, Japan-based Nissan, which together sell one in 10 cars worldwide. The companies, which have been strategic partners since 1999, sold 8.5 million cars in nearly 200 countries in 2015. Nissan squad move forward in Nurburgring Blancpain battle
by News Feeder, 25-05-2024, 11:56 AM
July3rd Nurburgring, Germany The battle for the Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup continued at the Nurburgring last weekend with the NIssan GT Academy Team RJN squad making strong progress after qualifying struggles. In stark contrast to the recent Nurburgring 24 Hour on the fast and daunting Nordschleife, the Blancpain Sprint round was staged on the Nurburgring's short circuit - the 3.6km version of the Formula 1 venue which bypasses the famous Dunlop Hairpin and Schumacher esses part of the circuit. The GT-R battled to stretch its legs in qualifying, finishing 30th overall for the No.23 of Alex Buncombe and Mitsunori Takaboshi and 35th for the No.22 of Sean Walkinshaw and Ricardo Sanchez. While qualifying was a tough battle, both cars moved forward in the two x one-hour races."The short circuit at the Nurburgring is not strong track for the GT-R and we had to struggle over the weekend," Mitsunori Takaboshi said."The GT-R drove well and I was P13 in the first qualifying session, but we had to settle for P30 on the grid overall. We were confident we could move forward if we kept out of trouble and everything went to plan and we climbed up to 16th in the qualifying race on Saturday."A quick shower of rain just before the start of the main race kept the teams busy but chose to start on slicks. I moved up to 13th in the opening lap and tried to keep moving forward, but it was difficult on short Nurburgring layout."The GT-R is getting better as the series goes ahead and we're still pushing hard to get results. We know improving our qualifying pace will result in better race results so that is where our focus is at the moment."The No.22 Nissan impressed in the Saturday qualifying race, moving up 10 positions to finish 25th. Sunday's race however was impacted by a puncture which forced Ricardo Sanchez to take the escape road at the chicane just before his stop. Sean Walkinshaw subsequently had to serve a drive-through penalty for the accidental "short-cut" pushing the team back to 29th at the chequered flag.###
