Just watched these couple of videos on youtube, pretty interesting to see what difference they actually make (or don't make!) on a Dyno.

Mighty car mods do a few good write ups

Lol this quite good!

Love it!

Quote:Actually if you just do a poo before you get in the car, you'll get a bigger performance increase than putting on the most expensive filter you can buy

Tis' an interesting video, the only flaw is, in real world diving the airflow over and in the engine bay is substantially higher then can be simulated on the dyno. The fan isn't anyway near powerful enough to replicate driving at even 60mph. This "may" be a flaw in the test it may not - that's one of the problems with non scientific testing.

They don't take into account the removal of a resonator; I'd be interested to see if you get any gains by doing this, keeping your stock air box (like I have).

You certainly do get a nice deep induction noise!

Glad I'm not the only one who wondered whilst watching it can't be accurate compared to actual road speed wind.

Conclusions I got from that was spend some cash for engine sound tuning at that's it. So think i'll stick with getting a K&N pannel filter for 30 quid and leave it at that, oh and the exhaust if it ever gets delivered cos at the moment I've just paid short of 400 for an email.

and there was me thinking it'll make a difference on a turbo'd car. i dunno if the k&n in my car is making any difference, but my mind tells me that my engine revs smoother with it in.

Personally I think the turbo one is flawed, in that a LOT of turbo'd cars had the turbos fitted/upgraded after they left the factory.

Can you imagine Stav's car trying to suck in 400hp+ of air through a K&N panel filter? I think it would rip the paper out of it's housing! LOL

thing is it will all depend on the filter being used, the ambient air temp, the under bonnet temp everything, as you have said, no dyno can replicate wind speeds that a car will have on the roads.
