LCD vs Plasma tend to be a pretty personal choice. Have you tried going into Dixons/Currys just to have a look at several (e.g. in my local one they have several types of CD all showing the same demo trailers so you can compare) to see which you prefer ?

At the size your looking at it plazma all the way below 32 then it a different story.
But if you go to a large store and have both connected side by side your see the difference your self.
Middle of the road and good value is the pansonic

We have got a cheap LCD at 42" and its a Technika.
We got it from Tesco with the sister-inlaws discount.
Think it was about £400 and we have no complaints with it.
For that kind of money we could not see what the difference would have been spending £1000+

LG or Panasonic willbe the best for that budget.. the best is the pioneer Kuro but they start at 50' and 2K..

I just bought a lg for my spare room it is a 32 inch LCD but the best for 42 is the plazma.
Please go out and look at both tv together so you can see the difference.
My only wish was i got the 50inch version instead.
