Just a quicky will directional tyres always have an arrow on pointing which way they should be going? I have just had to get a tyre on my nephews Fiesta and the bloke at the tyre place put the diretion for drivers side not passengers, as far as I can tell the one that was on the drivers is ok for both sides so I swapped them over but now it doesn't look right on the car, if it's no good i'll have to take it back to him but I done it without the car as my missus was using it and really can't be bothered with the hassle, I know it's a major safety issue so needs sorting.

On directional tyres the point of the arrow should hit the floor first as the car drives forward,
spreading the water to the outside as it rolls over.
Also on the tyre wall should be an arrow.

Yeah that's what i've always known but there's no arrow on the tyre wall and the tyres not symetrical and not obviously directional, I think it's called A-Symetrical which usually are sided but on this way it's really hard to tell, i'll just have to take it back and get it sorted properly.

It might be asymmetrical but not directional. So as long as you put it with the correct side facing out, it will be ok. If it's directional then obviously the direction of rotation has to be right too.
What make/model of tyre is it exactly ?

When you say "direction for drivers side", what exactly do you mean, what does the tyre say on it ? Usually asymmetrical tyres will say something like "outside" and "inside" to show which way round they go. If they're non-directional then you can swap the wheel/tyre combo around between different sides of the car. But if they're directional they can't be moved from one side to the other, since the direction will be wrong if you do.

The one i'm talking about was already on the car, basically it needed a tyre on the passenger side, I got a nearly new part worn Pirelli which is directional but he put it on the rim the wrong way, when I got the tyre and the car together I realised it was wrong and it was too late to go back so I took the one off the drivers side and swapped it to passenger and then put the Pirelli on the drivers side, from what I can see on the tyre that's now on the passenger side it's fine, no arrows and it say's outside on the outside but it just doen't look right IMHO

ok, it probably is right though. What tyre is it exactly ? Should be able to look it up on the net and check that it's just asymmetrical and non-directional. Which is what it sounds like it is.

Er not sure mate it's a cheap nasty thing, the thing that's bothering me is when you swap them from side to side they should look the same no matter what side it's on but the tread pattern is different on the oposite side which makes me think it's a directional A-Symetric, I really think it's sided but i'm sure the rears arn't so i'll just swap it for one of those. Surely the side that says "outside" has the same tread pattern on both tyres, and has the same sort of part of the tread on the outside when mounted on the car on opposite sides ? But it's possible there looks to be a slight difference in direction on the tread pattern, without it necessarily being a "directional" tyre (e.g. with a big "V" pattern in the tread). Has it just got different tread on the inside and outside ? Pics ?
