Thanks guys. ok, let's start with the small updates on progress/incidents with my car since I was last here.
Overall, it's still running well.
A few months back, I got into the car and the passenger door mirror started trying to adjust (downwards) on its own. I immediately suspected water ingress, since it had been raining heavily the night before, and sure enough, when I took the fusebox cover off in the passenger footwell, there was water in there.
I had to go to a dentist's appointment when I discovered this, so I didn't have a lot of time to start fiddling about to stop this happening (the motor was continually trying to move the mirror downwards). It took me a while to find out which fuse to remove, because it wasn't obvious (there's no specific "door mirror" fuse). Not exactly obvious, but it's the "Radio No. 2" fuse.
Unfortunately by the time I found out which fuse to remove (it was even trying to operate with the ignition turned off), the damage had been done. The mirror won't now adjust up/down, it just makes a bad sound, and I suspect that motor has burnt out. It still adjusts left/right. Looks like a new mirror unit is going to be required, because I don't think you can easily replace that motor on its own (looks like a lot of dismantling is required).
I found that the water was coming in via the main grommet through the passenger side of the bulkhead. This seemed to be happening because my piggyback ECU's big wiring harness goes through there, and it wasn't really sealed up. In heavy rain, water was coming off the scuttle above there, directly onto the wiring and then getting in through that grommet.
Sealing up the area around the grommet entry helped a bit but didn't entirely fix the problem. But sealing up the area of the scuttle above it (the water seemed to be coming down where the feed for the windscreen washers went through it) did appear to fix it properly. I used aquarium sealant for the job, which I got off eBay - if it's good enough to stop water leaks in an aquarium, that should be good enough to me !

Sorry to hear of your problems stevie. That exactly the same thing that is happening on rabsters car. The grommet lets water through as soon as it rains. Ill tell him about the aquarium sealant

I will take a pic of where the water was dripping (pouring) down from. When I sealed that, it seems to have been much more effective than trying to seal the grommet itself. Though of course it might just be different on my car.

Here's a (not very clear) pic of the wiring (including OEM wiring, but e-Manage harness on the top) disappearing through the passenger bulkhead. You can just about see where I used some aquarium sealant on it (to the right of the white electrical connector) :

The biggest improvement seems to have come from sealing the source of the water though, which comes down through the plastic scuttle where the windscreen washer tube goes through it. The black tube can be seen coming down in the middle of the next picture. The scuttle and rubber seal come off very easily, and I wacked in some sealant around that tube.

That pipe, at least on my car, seems to create a nice little channel where the water can run down, if it rains hard enough. I put some aquarium sealant (cheap and easy to get off eBay) around the pipe and (touch wood) it seems to have sorted it.
