Rabster i might know a way you could change that s you dont need the key but works on proximity to activate the car then you push the button to start

you can buy a domesic pke kit from maplins wire it to 2 relays to turn on the acc and ign as soon as you place card near the reader say mounting it under drivers seat that way only authorized cards will activate the system same principal used to be deployed in the older AA vans
you still have the steering lock issue so either remove it or disconnect the wiring and leave a key installed and blank it off
