I am not a fan of the Matt Black either, but have to admit if done well and on the right car it can really look the part
i think sometimes things are not always to certain tastes, but somehow they work.. Bit like the spoiler on the rear of my MR2, i actually don't like it much, although it's quiet rare apparently.. but, it works with the car and its overall look.. so it stays.. for now
