A quick update on this. I'm loving my phone so far, it's awesome.
I've rooted it and have s-off, so can now flash custom ROMs if I want, though I haven't dipped my toe into that particular water just yet. Have custom recovery too (ClockworkMod). So I can at least install some apps that need root access now (e.g. Titanium Backup).

Nice one, what's s-off, is it the HTC version of Odin (the flashing software)?
I had problems with titanium backup when I tried to do a full restore after flashing new ROMs but not sure if that was just me.

Security off. So I can flash custom ROMs. Basically a different bootloader, an engineering version.
