sorry but McAfee is horse ****, use avira it's free will offer better protection and will use less system resources making your pc run faster and smoother.

Make sure you remove McAfee before installing any new anti-virus stuff, otherwise if you have multiple anti-virus thingies then you will have even more problems !

quoted for truth, had that exact problem today with a students laptop at work. Had Mcaffee and Symantec both installed and wondered why she wasn't getting internet connection.
