Yeah :/ I've already stripped the seat down to the frame so I can work on it without damaging any of the leather. It's gonna be a right ball ache, I can tell.

MY ****ING CAR TRIED TO KILL ME
After the flames died down and I repaired the ECU wiring, I can currently only drive it around off-boost and at low revs (engine fans & chargecooler pump not working). It was my own wiring which was always gonna be temporary and teaches me I should never try and cut corners.
Anyway, I got the seat frame drilled and retapped by my friend's dad who appears to have half a machine shop in his garage! I've reassembled the base of the frame today and taken some pictures to show how good the liquid leather kit is. I haven't taken before pictures, but I will take pictures of the other seat which I haven't cleaned yet. So, this is after:

Not really sure how well to demonstrate this. It's definitely made a difference that the photo's don't do justice to. Aside from the **** fold in the seat it looks & feels new up close!
Edit: Got the seat back together and completely liquid leather treated. Here are the 2 side by side, the one on the right is the one I've disassembled and cleaned.

You can't really see the difference apart from some marks around the headrest area but the difference up close is pretty noticeable. I just need to enlarge some holes in the plastic trim on the sides to accommodate the new bolts and then they can go in the car!!

I had taken power from the EFI circuit in the boot (powers the ECU) to operate some relay closing circuits. Looks like one of them somehow shorted to ground and blew the EFI fuse, which killed the engine mid roundabout!
I've not looked yet to be honest but I'm confused as to how this has happened because relay operating circuits are such low power that it couldn't have melted the wire, and the cables are all well grommeted so won't have worn through on any sharp edges. Need to investigate that at lunchtime I think.

So did it really catch fire too, or was that a bit of poetic licence ? Either way it sounds like a lucky escape, and hopefully you'll be able to track down exactly what went wrong.

It did, because I was pissed off and decided the easiest way to find the fault was to put a bigger fuse in and see where the smoke came from. Not recommended but it got me back on the road!

I completely agree, never a good idea and I'd never do it to anyone else's car. However I didn't have time to problem solve, or any tools (meter etc) on me and I was stopped in a bus stop so needs must!
