Do you get an error code on screen? Top loading units don't really go wrong like the bottom loaders.

I dunno, I think they do, just perhaps not as often and they're easier to fix ?

My top loader packed up (ERR3) whilst under warranty. As mentioned, Lexus replaced my unit as my car was still under warranty at the time.

My car is a late 2000 model- I guess my car was probably one of the first ones that had the top loading units fitted?

Sorry mate, I was actually asking the OP if he himself got an error code, not if they did in general :tongue_smilie:

Reason being that I had mine replaced when it was still under warranty as I was getting an intermittent ERR1 code come up on mine.

Mine is the Black version. The latest incarnation from Lexus. It is free of any errors and only 3 years old.

The Black units are best ones to have.

DJ Wozza The only thing you need to check for is the small number by the cassette slot.
13901-13906 etc

So long as these match you will be ok wether you have a Sat-Nav or not.
My OE Head unit went into a Navigator no worries (PCIronmike's IS200), but please be aware eventually the OE Head Unit will pack up.
Mine lasted in Paul's car about 9 months I think, then it packed up. It was fine in my car & his then one day the CD part just died.

It is so annoying...seems like the most common lexus is200 electrics fault :cursing:... i wouldnt mind getting an aftermarket but i like the OEM look...but if i get the aftermarket i would probably get some sort of fancy dvd screen unit

It is a very common problem on the IS200, yes. Having said that, the IS200 has very few faults, and it's an easy one to get around with an aftermarket unit ! But if you still want the total OEM look you still have an option there.

To the OP: Do you have an ipod? If so, then why not buy a GROM ipod kit that allows you to connect your ipod to the OEM headunit.

You'll be able to keep the OEM look.

Bit harsh. I am 100% sure only a small percentage fail in reality, but owners clubs magnify this issue and make it look like it is certain that they will fail. An after-market HU can also fail, they are at the end of the day only electronic and will always have some failures.
