steviewevie Thanks. I'm not too hot on different versions of Windows Mobile, but it's running 6.1 with HTC's own "TouchFLO 3D" interface over the top, to hide a lot of the Windows stuff.
Vodafone told me that it will be upgradeable to 6.5 when that comes out, although I haven't seen that confirmed elsewhere.
Yep Touchflo is great and masks the cumbersome nature of WM quite well - does the Touch Pro have a capacitive (hard) screen now or is it still resistive (soft)?

Marsdendean and you cant press the screen at 2 different points can you and it does 2 different things.
I have the HD with windows on, its a great phone, but the mrs has just got a HTC Hero, and the Android software, i think can rival the iphone.
Windows lets these powerful phone down, and i just hope HTC sways away from it, as it is crappy!
What's the Hero like? I really want one but have only just got my magic! It looks stunning though from everything I've seen - and yes has the elusive multitouch that apple fanboys rave about all the time!
As time goes by Android really is the one to watch - it's slowly developing the slickness that made the iPhone so popular while also combining the functionality that made windows mobile so massive..........

I would have got an Android phone if there was one with a decent slide-out Qwerty keyboard. Probably by the time I come to replace my new HTC Touch Pro2 there will be more choice on that front.
Marsdendean, HTC do a pretty good job of hiding all the crappy Windows stuff with their TouchFlo 3D interface.

That's despite receiving a text from Vodafone first thing saying it wouldn't come today. I phoned Vodafone for more info, and they said that all the customers who placed orders in the last couple of days had received the same text and it wasn't necessarily true lol.
Looks gorgeous. Charging up now, though I won't be able to try it out properly till tomorrow, when my existing mobile number gets ported across.

Marsdendean I dont like the windows software as you have to use a pen to do everything, but you can flash the ROMS, which do make them very neet phonesA pen to do everything ? Why ? Think I can do most things via jabbing the screen with my fingers, though my new phone does have a very nice QWERTY keyboard too.

A bit of an update on this, in case anyone's vaguely interested.
I've had my HTC Touch Pro2 for a few days now. Unfortunately Vodafone's system screwed up over the number porting (affected everyone who attempted it over a few days) so I still haven't had the number moved from my old SIM. This is scheduled for Tuesday now. However, to my amazement I found that if I put my Orange SIM card in then the phone worked, including getting a signal ! So it appears not to be locked to Vodafone, which I found somewhat suprising. This also let me copy contacts across from my existing phone via the SIM, which was handy/
This has given me a bit of a chance to play around with the phone and check out the options, read the manual etc. So far, so good. It looks like HTC's TouchFlo 3D interface does a good job of being the interface that you use most of the time. I can see why HTC put that on there, because when you get into the Windows Mobile stuff it doesn't look nearly as good. But you don't need that for the vast majority of operations. The touch screen seems easy to use, and the slide-out QWERTY keyboard is very good indeed.
I was already aware that ActiveSync 4.5 wouldn't work with Outlook 2000, which is unfortunate since Outlook 2000 is what I have. I did try putting an earlier version of AS on my PC, but the phone didn't want to know (and just complained that it needed 4.5). It's my Calendar info that I want to sync really, nothing else, so will have to have a think about that (e.g. possible upgrade to Outlook 2007).
I'm pleased with it so far. Looking forward to next week when I can hopefully start using it properly, trying out the web browsing on it (HTC have stuck Opera on it, though IE is still there too) etc.

Just verified on the web that what the guy in the Vodafone shop told me is true, i.e. that HTC have said these phones will be upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5 when that comes out (along with the Touch Diamond2).

Still no pics, will try and sort some out at some point.
I knew that my current Outlook 2000 was incompatible with ActiveSync 4.5 (the latest version). I wanted to be able to sync my desktop PC's calendar with the phone, though I wasn't bothered about other stuff like Contacts, To-do list etc.
I upgraded to Outlook 2007, and this itself didn't work initially. It seemed to go through the install, tell me it had done it, but then I couldn't find a link to Outlook anywhere, even though the Control Panel reported that it was installed ! After some head-scratching, I found that in the Office configuration, Outlook was still set as "not available". I changed that, and then it did install the Outlook stuff and upgraded my existing installation. Despite having a ton of email in Outlook folders, the upgrade then went very smoothly, and I was up and running with Outlook 2007.
Back to the syncing, well, it just wouldn't work. It seemed to try for ages and then give up. After a bit of Googling, I found that since Windows uses TCP/IP to communicate with the phone, firewalls can block ports and cause havoc. Sure enough, checking the logs of my firewall (ZoneAlarm free version) I found that it was indeed blocking ActiveSync traffic. A bit more Googling let me then get around that, and hey presto it worked !
So now my desktop calendar (Outlook 2007) is sync'd with the phone, great !
Hopefully tomorrow my existing mobile number will be ported across to the new SIM card, then I can put the new phone fully into action, test out web browsing, etc.
