Mr Reman Well, I've finally got this mod fitted.
I used the "Variable Timer / Pulsing Relay Board" that Rabster posted a link too and a project box from Maplin's. I reckon that all in the parts I actually used for the final attempt cost about 25 quid (Plus about the same in bit's that I turned into to scrap on my 2 board building attempts. :bored

If anyone else wants to follow the less "hands on" route to doing this mod, Rather than adding a link to an Ebay auction that might be gone in a month, Here's a link to the sellers shop. From there you can do a search for the item titled "Variable Timer / Pulsing Relay Board".

With the diagrams showing what you're trying to achieve and one of these relay board, it should be possible for most of us "Less able" people who want to do this mod to be able to get it to work.

Once you get your head around what you're actually trying to make the unit do (ie, When triggered, The unit needs to open 2 switches (Within the relay) to disconnect the mirrors original power feeds and closes another 2 to send 12 volts to the mirrors for just under 5 seconds. As long as the polarity is correct the mirrors will fold in. When you unlock the car and turn on the ignition the unit doesn't get involved, The mirrors open as they would normally) it's an incredibly easy mod to do.

I found a permanent live in the fuse box (A large white wire in the plug that's situated at the top front of the fuse box. On that plug it's the wire nearest you at the bottom) and "*Scotch blocked" onto that. For the negative I just found a convenient bolt, fitted a crimp on ring terminal to the wire and clamped it to the metalwork.

I used another "Scotch block" to attach the trigger/alarm wire.

I used insulated crimp plugs/sockets on the mirror wires, But made sure I alternated the male/female plugs so if I want to remove the unit I can just reconnect the mirrors wires without having to mess about with yet more crimp connectors.

After all the agro I had (Not successfully) making the boards, I went through this uber methodically. First I connected the trigger and earth wires , Then powering the unit from an external battery pack connected to the live and this earth point I tested that the board would recognise the trigger signal (It did). Then I linked the units positive into the thick white wire I mentioned above, And retested it (Still fine). Then I spliced it into the mirrors wires and with the unit turned off, Tested the mirrors still worked (Getting excited now. :biggrin. Finally, Flicked the switch, locked the doors and watched in ore as the mirrors folded away, just as they should have made them do from the factory.

So, All in all, I'm happy with this mod. I wish I'd got the home made board to work properly (But I suppose someone had to c0ck it right up....... So it might as well be me. :whistling. In my head, Using the Ebay board cut this projects difficalty rating by a factor of 3,



(I'm not really a fan of Scotch blocks and crimp connectors, But as access is pretty tight in there, I didn't want to risk toasting half the wiring loom with my gas soldering iron)

Rabster I will be making up some kits of these to sell on for making the mirrors fold in and out on the alarm control

Mr Reman I, on the other hand, am the sort of inept plank who while trying to build mine, didn't wait long enough for my gas powered soldering iron to cool down before refilling it. I managed to remove most of the hair from the back my right hand in the ensuing small fireball.

In fact although i did once create the board myself i now have an original Geoffers made kit in my car now, it does the sunroof as well,then ive added the windows.
