Not too sure about that article, and it's written from a US perspective (though that's obviously a very big market). The LF-A should help Lexus's image quite a lot.
CAR magazine's review of the IS-F wasn't terribly complimentary, but they loved their long-term test one, they came to like it more and more over time.

If you love or hate the American car market these markets are the one of most important markets to gain in the world for the big manufactors.
Some of the highest production vehicles in the world do not even shipped to the UK like the best selling f150 pick up truck.
Some people say that if the F150 never sold then Ford would go under.
Like wise with some other brands out there as well.

That article has more substance than the GT-R one but still a little weird - as long as ageing people continue to buy them it doesn't mean its market declines?
But the IS-F etc should help the image improve, but only time will really tell
