Could this be Mercedes setting themselves up to have their own team in the near future? If they kept Ross Brawn as the head of the team, that could be quite an exciting prospect.........

You say mercedes having their own team. I though Mclaren was part of them anyway, so isnt McLaren Mercedes, already their own team?

Nope Mercedes owns 40% of McLaren - they are therefore the major shareholder but they don't have a controlling interest.
This could end up being the "Mercedes" team - which is something I know they were interested in doing a while back but then I think McLaren convinced them this was the best way.

So is Mclaren, kinda like Barabus? Just tune their cars, and help them in bits. But are just a separate company themselfs who work with Mercedes 99% of the time?

Not really, I think Brabus are wholly owned by Mercedes now, so do whatever they're told!
Mercedes doesn't really have a lot of input I don't think in terms of McLaren cars, they design and provide the engines, and I'm sure there's some involvement in terms of integrating it into the car in the best way, but I think the majority of the car side of things is done by McLaren themselves. They are a surprisingly large company for one that just builds racing cars.

I don't think it's Mercedes moving to having their own team, just Mercedes further raising their own profile in F1.
Mclaren are just down the road (sort of) from where I live, in Woking.

Marsdendean I think there doing alright as Mclaren. I cant see Mercedes doing as well as Mclaren Mercedes, just because of Mclarens knowledge!
People often forget the amazing history Mercedes has in racing (their own cars), and I'm sure there is a part of them that wants that back again..........
McLarens knowledge is one thing, but with Mercedes funding and Ross Brawn at the helm, I think McLaren (and everyone else) would be quite worried (look what he did with Honda's money) :thumbup:
