So long my old friend
Your days are numbered, being brought to an end
To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh that's fine
But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.
The French and the Germans may call themselves such
So may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane
But don't say you're English ever again.
At Broadcasting House the word is taboo
In Brussels it's scrapped, in Parliament too
Even schools are affected. Staff do as they're told
The y must not teach children about England of old.
Writers like Shakespeare, Milton and Shaw
The pupils don't learn about them anymore
How about Agincourt, Hastings , Arnhem or Mons ?
When England lost hosts of her very brave sons.
We are not Europeans, how can we be?
Europe is miles away, over the sea
We're the English from England , let's all be proud
Stand up and be counted - Shout it out loud!
Let's tell our Government and Brussels too
We're proud of our heritage and the Red, White and Blue
Fly the flag of Saint George or the Union Jack

The thing about not wearing England shirts into pubs is a made-up story I'm afraid, one that the Sun has seemingly helped promote/. It's a load of rubbish, albeit rubbish that seems to have spawned 1000 Facebook groups (not dissimilar to the "Facebook is going to start charging after [random date]" groups - similarly made-up nonsense).

My dads mate had to take down a saltire he had in his garden.
The council were apparently worried about it "inciting racism"... even the Americans are allowed to fly their own flag in their own gardens...

I can understand the request on football shirts, mostly - rival team fans can kick off (as anyone in Glasgow can tell you), but for the likes of the world cup the vast vast majority of fans in the pub will all be supporting the same team... As the article says their advice wasn't meant to apply to England shirts, they probably just meant the league teams etc

The Swedish national anthem was recently banned from all Swedish schools. You can no longer sing it, or write it. If you do you're a racist, apparently.
