I've been asked a question for a job application but I'm not sure on the answer even though I've studied file systems previously lol...
On an NTFS file system, what is the difference between moving a file between folders on the same partition, and between folders on different partitions, and why is it important to understand the difference?
If someone could help me out then it would be much appreciated.

Having two partitions is like having two hard drives in one,
the difference in my eyes would be that if you moved one file from one partition to another, and the first partition became currupt or you the data, Partition two would in normal circumstances still be there.
If you have filed in one partition and the hard drive currupts that partition will be lost losing all files.
for example.
on my laptop I have a C: drive and D: drive, both drives are one hard of 250GB
110 GB is C: which is used for vista, downloads, and software
110GB is D: which is used for my personal files, such as vids, words documents.
If i was to download a software which had a virus that would go into C: and the virus would affect only C:, if my laptop stopped working and I had to reboot, that would only reboot C: and D: would remain the same with all my files

I understand where you're coming from but I think its to do with the permissions really. Remember its specifically referred to the NTFS file system. I cant believe that my minds gone blank on this especially when I've worked in IT before and just finished my degree in Business Information Systems with E-Business lol..

When copying or moving a file or folder, the permissions may change depending on where you move the file or folder.
Copying Files and Folders
1.When copying a folder or file within same NTFS partition, the copy of the folder or file inherits the destination folder permissions.
2.When copying a folder or file between different NTFS partitions, the copy of the folder or file inherits the destination folder permissions.
Moving Files and Folders
1.When moving a file to a folder within the same NTFS partition, the folder or file will retains its original permissions.
2.When moving a folder or file between different NTFS partitions, the file or folder will inherit the destination folder permissions.
