Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history? - jimxms - 23-08-2019 I'm not sure how this works, (or if its possible) but if I were to give someone at Lex/Toy the reg no of a car I'm interested in, would they be able to check out its service history? I'm looking at a car with rather high mileage and the dealer has no idea if cambelt has been done! No stickers in engine bay and no mention on service stamps. TBH it sounds like a it of a duffer, but at the price they are selling I've got a couple of grand buffer to get some maintenance done. Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history? - Stoney - 23-08-2019 Does the owner not have any service history for it? Always a little worrying. Someone at Toyota should be able to look up service history carried out for you, though obviously only if it was serviced by a main dealer. Those V8s are pretty bullet proof mind. Yeah i dont know if I'm dicing with death really.... - 190k on clock - Last service (non-Lexus) done at 160k - 8 dealer stamps - no idea if cambelt has been done at this point (probably shud have been twice by now?), - Has a CEL on, but drives fine according to dealer (will take code reader). Its cheap and its in the colour and spec I want which is hard to come by, but can I be arsed with potential hassle...hmmm Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history? - parthiban - 23-08-2019 It better be super cheap based on that, otherwise I wouldn't really gamble on it. If the cambelt was done at Lexus, then Lexus UK should be able to track it down if not the dealers - so I'm guessing it's not been done or was at an independent. Assuming we're talking about an LS here, I would be very careful, as when stuff goes wrong it is VERY expensive to fix so I think it would be sensible to pay a bit more for a well documented low mileage car than gamble on something like that. Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history? - purplewitch - 23-08-2019 If it's an LS you really should have a chat with Jsj24uk, he did a lot of research before he bought his and has gained a lot more since owning his ..especially if you have any plans to replace items in it as the programming in his is a minefield and even Lexus are wary of doing some stuff Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history? - jimxms - 23-08-2019 parthiban It better be super cheap based on that, otherwise I wouldn't really gamble on it. Its cheap...but not as cheap as I'd like. I can get one with 50k less miles, no CEL's and a full dealership history for £1500 more (but with cream interior which I dont like). Is it a no-brainer? Definitely a no brainer mate, an LS could easily cost you the price of the car again (and more) to repair if things go wrong so make sure you get the most mint car you can get your hands on. Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history? - jimxms - 23-08-2019 I shall take heed of your advice and tell the seller to go swivel then. Unless of course he wants to offer me a 1/2 price discount. Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history? - Stoney - 23-08-2019 I would go for it. But then I do like a deal and will often take a gamble. Have done the same on many cars before, and it often pays off, but not always. So far no issues with my £1k IS.
Anyone @ Lexus/Toyota able to dig up some history? - fluff - 23-08-2019 If it's an LS, then I wouldn't touch it with a ten mile barge pole. Your buffer for maintenance will last all of ten seconds. These are not cheap cars to run or maintain. |
