Flat colour owners - do you have clear coat?

I had a bodyshop today trying to argue with me that my Astral Black had clear coat on it. So i took out some polish and a rag from the boot and buffed off some black onto the cloth.
However, they still maintain that ALL colours had clear coat. So I'm wondering if my IS had a full respray before it came to me.:closedeyes:
I know that all of the metallic paint colours will obviously have clear coat, but how about the flat colours?

Exactly. But this bodyshop was going on about how every car made in the last 20 years (or something) has clear coat and it's "illegal" not to have it!!!
I just looked at him like "WTF are you chatting about".
I know they stopped using lead based paints a long time ago, but clear coat?

03-12-2018, 06:29 AM #7the thing is toyota paint is pricy and lexus is even more. so maybe they are going to use a cheaper paint and clear coat it to get the same effect.... not sure why they are saying this but you may want to look for a body shop that knows what they are on about

As everyone has said the black has no clear - and agree that I'd stay away from that bodyshop!
