Whats happened mate?
Oh no, what's up ? :confused1:
I think the master cylinder is shot, brakes won't bleed as a result so the car is undriveable and I've had to leave it at my friends unit. I have had 4 people look at the brakes now and all of them be unable to diagnose the problem.
Also found out while it was up on the ramps that one of my CV joints is bust and I need 2 new front tyres, probably a wheel alignment too.
That's a bummer mate. Is the master cylinder mega-expensive to replace ? Or can you get one without too much trouble from a breaker's perhaps ?
How about the CV joint, is that a difficult/expensive one ?

Slightly better news today, apparently they took the car off the ramps this morning and the brakes are working (??!). They're not great but they'll pass an MOT and that's good cause it means I can drive the car again and don't need to buy a new master cylinder this month (£250). I can't find any pattern master cylinders, brakes international don't stock them and blueprint don't make one either. I'm still going to replace it though, as the brakes on this car have always been terrible and have never bled reliably so it must be a bit buggered.
Also discovered that:
a) the sliders are buggered, and they're part of the carrier so thats new carriers both sides (one of them is BENT?!?! WTF)
b) one of the bolts that mounts the carrier is knackered (only about 1/3rd thread left, suspect thread in carrier is shot)
c) 2 of the caliper bolts are knackered too!
So they all need replacing. The sliders are 1 piece with the carrier so 2 x new carriers (at least I can paint them then), 1 x new carrier bolt, 2 x new slider bolts and 1 x new master cylinder. Fortunately the carriers & bolts can all be done on a jack, so I don't need to waste yet more of my friend Matt's time with the car up on ramps. He does have a very nifty pressure bleeder for clutches & brakes though, which attaches to an airline and sucks all the fluid through.
Anyway, here are some pictures. This is what I had at the start of the weekend:
Before:
Caliper + disc off, braided hose fitted:
The Goodridge fittings weren't quite right, had to file out one of the holes:
Old caliper:
New and shiny!
These are the pads off the side that was really buggered, the top one has no friction material at all and I had been braking with the pad mount :o
Fronts only got hoses, but here's a pic featuring my ridiculous wheel spacers:

And to think I've got all this coming when the Boxter goes and gets replaced with an MR2 GTS.
