Indeed.
I've done half my running in miles now so I guess it's past time to share a little more with you, so where were we? Oh yes, at the bodyshop..
Well the base colour on the main shell so it's time to finalise the little personalisations that I want to really make this car MINE.
I want the cars name painted on her. I named the other one Suki. I wanted a japanese girls name and I liked Suki because it means Loved One. Choosing a name for the purple one was difficult but it really couldn't be Pumpkin any more .. infact Pumpkin was a temporary name I gave her to stop Jim calling her Mildred, Maud, Mabel or Pam!
In the end I settled for Sachi, meaning Blessed / Lucky (And I hope she is!)
There is a lovely little flat panel on the side of my front Do-Luck spoiler and I figured 'Sachi' would fit perfectly on there.
I wanted a wiccan symbol on the door and finally Purple Witch written on the rear wings - all in a sparkly silver and all painted in before the final lacquers.
During one of my visits to the bodyshop we'd decided on approximate sizes, fonts and placings of all these and the exact silver I wanted and I left it with them to get stencils made.
The wiccan symbol was no trouble, the word Sachi was no trouble .. but Purple Witch gave us some trouble (Yes I know exactly what you're thinking!) To get the size we had originally discussed, the font had to be stretched and it looked horrible, so we agreed smaller is fine as long as it still fitted in the centre of the area we'd outlined for placing.
We had taped paper all over her to get a feeling for what it would look like lol
At this time I was quite specific that I wanted Sachi on the bottom of the spoiler, the wiccan symbol half way up the door and then the PW on the flatter part of the rear spoiler underneath and central to the pillar. If you started at the front you eye would be gradually led upwards and it would be balanced.. as balanced as writing things all over your car can be lol.. so we were definitely going with the first of these suggestions
To be fair, a bit of time passed between the above conversations and when the stencils were ready and they had been doing other bits and the front splitter.. so it was a good idea that they just texted over to me, pictures of paper taped in several places to be sure about the placing of the Purple Witch writing .. the first one I got was like the second one above, the next one was central and the last one was too far to the back of the car and would have been awful as the flat part is too narrow so the words would have folded. I texted back 'The middle pic'
So you can imagine my shock when a few days later I received this pic
Looks like they wrote that in the place you asked them not to... Did they send the pics at the same time and they arrived on your phone in the wrong order or something?
Something like that.. Mark was very sweet as I was on the verge of hysteria ..
I'd reached the point now where this whole thing was taking so long and becoming so far over budget I was concerned. Nobodys fault but it was irritating me that I'd paid to tax the car thinking it would be a few months and insured it and it had had new tyres and brakes not long before it went in and after all this time the tyres might flatspot and as is common with supras, the brakes might seize up. I was worried all the new parts we'd bought might not work and the modified bits that had been returned were all untested. I was also aware that my engine was taking up space at Leons, and the longer it sat around the more potential for something to get knocked or bent or something. Leon was very good about it, infact he has been a star all the way through but I'm aware he has a business to run too and other peoples cars to build. He was reluctant to commit to other big projects until mine was done as he didn't want to have to let one of us down when and if my car ever came back.
Anyway, Mark came back to me with profuse apologies.. what had happened was that he had taken three pictures to send me but his phone was being awkward about sending them that day so they'd stuck the papers on again and his wife had taken pictures and sent me. I'd said the middle one, she'd told him the middle one.. and yes, you have it, he'd looked at his phone for the middle one and Jo's were in a different order
Silly mistake but I can see how easy it happened. I even managed to smile when he said he thought it was odd I had changed my mind cos I had been so adamant before .. but customers can do that.
He agreed to take the wings back to metal and redo them at his cost and apologised for the further delay but told me to book my return courier for the next week.
So I asked Leon to rebook the courier and he surprised me. He said he would go get her himself because there may be issues over the very low splitter being lifted or moved if someone wasn't really really careful. So Sachi got collected in Leon's personal racecar trailer. She's been in the HKS World recordholding drag cars very own trailer lol.
21st June 2011 - Sachi leaves the bodyshop !
