I remember that also - although from just reading the thread. Mark was not an engineer though..

Marsdendean Surly its common scense that a bad map can cause anything to go bad, even if your only remapping a car (such as an oil burner) and the map is stupidly wrong?

The problem is there are people out there who "think" they know what they are doing, tell you everything you want to here and then make educated guesses (sometimes and all to often uneducated guesses) then walk away and blame someone else when your engine blows up. From what I have read/found out/personal experience etc beware of anyone saying they will "road tune" your car, get it on a dyno.

Not always necessary, if someone really knows what their doing then road tuning is more than ok

Mine is mapped on the road mate,

If i was gonna set up the cam gears then id need to do that on a rolling road as its easier to fine tune

Also my car was road mapped (twice) by someone with a "very good" reputation. I was promised categorically that it was at least 300BHP by 2BAR and it turns out it was no way near that.

My point stands that unless it is on a RR you have no real idea what the power/torque ect is.

Oh i agree with that, for an "accurate" (knowing every RR differs) then a RR is needed, though a rough estimation can be gained using injector cycles.
But as for a successful map, they can be done on the road.

also did you mean 2bar?
