Yeah bit far that mate, the on off switch on his nav was one which you had to hold down abit before it came on, I wired it into the open and close switch with a couple of diodes, ill see if I can find which way round I put them, the auto on/off is in the nav unit itself, if you leave them open, when you turn the ignition off it'll close, when you put it back on the screen will open again

What I'd like it to do, is auto power on the GPS (and provide constant power/charging) when the ignition is on, and then power off (and provide no power/charging) when the ignition is on (basically, just like the radio). The open/close with ignition on/off would be useful, and it'd be nice to retain the use of the open/close and tilt buttons too, but not have them control the power state of the GPS.

So ideally;

- turn ignition to ON : GPS powers on and unit opens
- turn ignition to OFF : GPS powers off and unit closes

While ignition is ON : open/close button controls open/close of unit, but GPS remains powered on (until ignition OFF)

If that makes sense?

I read somewhere on here, might have been you, that a diode, or capacitor, needs wiring across ignition so as not to cause the GPS to power cycle during cranking the engine?

Just bought a 7" GPS off the bay for £44, so we'll see what's what when it gets here. I'm not 100% confident it'll do what I want it to do though, but I guess I'll find out when it arrives....
