xchipx John, when you had it serviced what sparkplugs were changed, if any?
Do you still get the slight "kick" in the upper rev-range?

Hi,

Yep, all the spark plugs were changed. There's still a slight kick at about 4000rpm.

Thanks,
John

The only reason why I mentioned spark plugs is because they are supposed to have a specific plug Denso SK20R11 which are iridium 1.1mm gap and cost about £60+ for a set, just wondered if someone had changed them for some random plug and not bothered gaping them etc.
Probably wouldnt make that much of a difference but just wondered.

You know one strange thing about mine, sometimes I feel like there is a kick and sometimes I dont...

Come on lads 15bhp down from factory on an engine with 145k is very good if it had wrong plugs it
would be down at least twice that and the kick is just the cross over from the vvti if it didn't work you would be lucky to have 100bhp.

And would you really believe factory figures car company's tend to round the bhp to the next number.

I always say a great service should keep it as close to standard as it came out the factory, i was merely saying that the NGK are just as good as the denso plugs

I agree with beams, you are going to get a build up of dried fluids and some wear and tear which might not have a major effect but they will have some.. on that kind of mileage. Back in the olden days ( and I am a genius at grinding pitted valves from this experience) everyone was amazed if your engine lasted 80k... things have progressed cos we use better products, better metals, we are more heat aware and have cleansing fuels... a well looked after, regularly serviced engine can easy last 200k it seems but it will lose some of it's oooomph! However in this case, witchanic suggests donate to sister and buy a proper car ..... oh yeah you are doing half of it lololol Smile

Helloooo,

Well I pulled the filter out yesterday, as I had forgotten to check it previously and found it was full of black sludge. It's a washable K&N element so I've flushed it through. I can't believe how much muck was in it. I must have hit a huge puddle and sucked up all the ****. I'm surprised the car was running at all.

Just for sh1ts and giggles I'm going to dyno it again today and see if it's made much difference.

As for the Wench, Grrrrr, I'm sure that back in your day 'BHP' was literally that! Ha ha ha.

Thanks for all the replies,
John

Fair points above, but if said engine has been well looked after, has good compression and everything is spot on it shouldn't really lose any power.
Maintenance before mileage I say.
Although Beams is right, a lot of manufacturers lie about the hp readings etc.

Realistically though it depends on the dyno and a lot of variables. The only true way to get a close as possible accurate reading would be an engine dyno....
