That is really clever, but at the same time seems a little dodgy as I thought you weren't allowed to alter the rear wing - I'm guessing there will be a change in regulations at some point, probably next season like with the double diffusers.

Marsdendean Sounds good to me! I really need to start learning more about F1. So how does this affect the rear wing?
It helps to "stall" the rear wing. A big rear wing can give lots of downforce on corners (speeding you up round the corners), but then it gives you lots of drag on the straight (slowing you down). So this is an attempt to reduce the drag on the straight, making the wing work better in both scenarios (corners and straights).

29-01-2018, 06:27 AM #17Well, first free practice times are interesting ! The newcomers (Virgin, Lotus) were very slow as expected, HRT (unfortunate name ! Used to be Campos Meta) didn't even set a time. But Sutil was fastest overall in the Force India, ahead of Alonso. Button slightly edged Hamilton. Schumacher was slower than Rosberg. Kubica went very well for Renault.

Very interesting, can't believe how slow the slow guys are this year compared to how close everyone was last year - the field spread is going to be massive if that is a true representation which will make overtaking backmarkers much more of a feature.........

29-01-2018, 10:58 AM #19Mercedes went well in the second Friday practice. Schumacher still off Rosberg's pace though. New team HRT actually got some times in, but are 11.5 seconds off the pace ! Is it sensible to let them run in the race ?
