[quote=Gord]Im surprised a small amount of water could even get their really, would it not collect in your large intercooler ? then it has to get up that rather steep bit of piping to the intake, for this to happen the pipe/intercooler would have had to be full of water as the pipes are rather thick, then with this amount of water in the pipe it would have done more than just the one rod i can assure you :w00t:[/QU

Hi Gord,
this is not a new phenomena. The principle is exactly the same as water injection but in an uncontrolled manner. I am sure over the past few months you have seen dozens of stranded cars at the side of the road which all be it will be 99% diesel which will of swallowed water and have at least bent conrods. Unfortunately for Jamie he was, which may not of made clear was the fact that he was on boost doing around 50mph so the air filter acted as a vacuum cleaner. Yes it is unusual to have this happen on a petrol engine but certainly not unheard of. The water will of been converted to steam and then entered the cylinder that way. It is impossible to compress water hence diamonds are cut with it.!!!! I personally have refused to use or get involved with anything to do with water injection on cars as it is purely a band aid and almost always ends in tears when the system fails due to running out of water and splits the block wide open when the engine hydraulics due to jet/pressure switch failure.
The point Jamie was making was how strong the std rods are. It did not break as the picture shows and the engine was still running weeks later all be it slightly low on compression on that cylinder. This is yet again why we state that these engines are far stronger than people would have you believe. I see no reason why the std bottom end will not take 350hp. The first weak link is the piston. We have already been past 8000rpm with the std crank.

You learn something new every day:thumbup: Water is an amazing element, when you think about it.
