50MB you get a free wireless N router? Which is possably what they may want to set up? (However its probably just to get a bit of extra money like any company, as it wont be hard....).

20MB is fine here, had no problems (suppose its because im on the same street as marsdendean.) Since 20MB is 2.0MB/s i thought 50MB would be 5.0MB/s? (How come its 6.25, or is there something mathematical im missing about it?)

Jambo

P.S You can also try and get in touch with rapidshare about their download speeds, although im pretty sure premium membership is advertised as unlimited download speeds? (Although again, its dependant upon how fast their servers are?_)

yh true about the wireless router.

in regards to the speeds, thats where broadband companies trick us all

20Mb is not 2 megabytes per second, Mb stands for Megabits nots megabytes,

1 megabyte is 8 megabits, so 20Mb is 2.5 megabyte

however they fail to mention megabyte cause it doesnt sound as high as megabits

so 50Mb is 6.25 megabytes

even so, 6.25 is pretty impressive, 100megabytes in 16 seconds? a drama episode is roughly about 350 megabyte in DVD quality from rapidshare so about 1 minute? wow.....................

Yeah I've always found it hard to switch away from Cable once you're used to it, I don't have huge internet demands (10meg is plenty) but I love the fact it's always 10 and I don't have to worry about stuff not downloading at certain times of the day.

I'd guess they have to come out for the 50meg as something probably needs to be done in the box outside, and it isn't just a case of switching it back on.

Anyone know if a net connection is available in the UK through satellite? They have introduced it in the US (where I am at the mo), but I do not know what speeds are capable.

Tango Anyone know if a net connection is available in the UK through satellite? They have introduced it in the US (where I am at the mo), but I do not know what speeds are capable.

Didn't know it existed but does appear to be available:

http://www.broadbandwherever.net/product...2Aodex80AA

Looks quite expensive though and at 3.6Mbps not the fastest connection, similar to mobile broadband at the minute. What's it like in the US?

yh you got a point there, in regards to getting the connection to 50meg

i checked quidco and found out i would get 65 casback for joining, so that would pay the installation and activation !

Marsdendean 50 is quite slow compared to what euro are now upto! I read somewhere that they were also testing out for 75MB internet, but don't know if its true!

Virgin are talking about getting 100Mb available, so expect to see that round the corner....

I would love mobile broadband, but the speeds are not worth the money !

its always up to 50Mb nothing is ever garunteed, however with Virgin, distance to some "exchange" as ADSL lines measure is not a problem,

I have not read many reviews which didnt say they got the full speed. which is why Virgin are pretty impressive, all down to fibre optic cable instead of phone lines !

Im currently with Be Broadband who is the same as O2, they are on phone lines and are one of the best ones ive found on a phone line.

but 50Mb is tempting !
