A Witches life with Supras
A Witches life with Supras
Stunning car, shame Inky doesn't appreciate art- only furry things that need chasing.
This car looks amazing, what a fantastic job!
More updates please lol
So, where were we? Oh yes.. Germany, I was so excited thinking I would get her back right after this trip. Luckily the trip itself was so amazing and exciting, it certainly kept my mind occupied .. I can be a little bit annoying when I am over excited!
But, in true car building fashion, all did not go to plan. When I got back, Leon told me they still hadn't managed to start the car and my hopes of it being a nicely obviously little wire or pipe were dashed. She was in pieces again while they checked and double checked all the most important and expensive parts. They'd swapped a few bits from another supra onto mine to check individual main components. It was reassuring to know it wasn't any of the big expensive modified bits! That established, they started on all the smaller components and electricals and established eventually that it was the Crank Sensor which is actually a common failing part in a supra but mine had been ok.
So new one acquired, fitted and we try this starting her up thing again. Bless her, instant start, sounds gorgeous, no smoke, flames, spitting bits out or whining ... however every single warning light inside I knew I had and many that I didn't know I had lit up like the the fourth of July and Blackpool illuminations combined!
I freak out, Leon takes it all in his stride assuring me this is not surprising or a worry and he will work through them. She's been broken down to nuts n bolts and put back together with a whole load of new things and woken up with different internals and a different dress, she is likely to be a bit confused. Her new number plate is on too, so even her registration has changed.. apart from her seats still being orange, even I still struggle to believe it's the same car.
A week or so passes and eventually all the lights are sorted, fault codes sorted and she's back together yet again. Leon is ready to take her for his first test drive !
Poor guy having to drive slowly round town in a purple car with witchy logos splattered all over it lol..
He comes back .. eventually..
(My Dad used to do this, he'd criticise every car I ever bought that didn't involve him in the decision and then 'take it for a quick trial'... four hours later he'd return with 'well it's ok I suppose, I don't like the air freshener' lol My Dad was a mechanical genius, there was nothing he couldn't fix and most of the time I could phone him up and say listen to my car and he'd tell me exactly what was wrong.. he never was wrong! So if the air freshener was his worst criticism I knew the car was ok and he'd be nicking it a lot more often lol)
Anyway, Leon.. he tells me the engine sounds and feels perfect, it's running smoothly and pulling well.. BUT .. why oh why is there always a BUT??
But.. she wasn't boosting properly ..she was boosting at the 0.4 bar and there was nothing else. Now at this point I am sure I should be thinking 'OMFG, my new £2000+ turbos don't work, this is major' .... I'm sure the mechanically minded of you have all kinds of technical possibilities running through your minds as to the reasons... what I was thinking was 'WTF, he told me I wasn't allowed boost until she is run in and that's 1000 miles of 30mph he'd said, why is he even trying boost, that's not fair!!!'
in such matters, Sam, it's always a case of "do as I say; not as I do!"
Ain't that so true!
Again they look for all the nice easy free possibilities first, loose pipes etc ..
Sachi means 'Blessed' - not living up to it yet is she
They tried all sorts and decided that they couldn't force her to overboost so it was looking like a stuck butterfly
Twin turbos on a supra are hidden .. way down out of sight.. so guess what ... yep, she gets taken apart again .. ( She should be able to take herself apart, blindfolded, in the dark and put herself back together royal marine style by now )
The turbos looked fine, there was really nothing obvious anywhere to suggest any fault here.. until ... one of the guys beady eyes spotted a tiny spot of slightly different coloured paint ... turns out it looks like the turbo company have dropped the actuator and scuffed some paint.. instead of checking it they had painted it over but the arm was bent just enough to keep the butterfly in one position!
By this time JPS were getting really annoyed, this car had been apart and reconstructed so many times she came with meccano diagrams .. and the amount of time that was wasted checking everything else was extremely costly to them. New actuator ordered, turbo company given a ticking off and warning of bill to follow.. and Sachi gets put back together again... and finally for the last time .. She started, she drove, she boosted (perfectly, I'm told .. not that I was allowed to see or try) .. She was ready for me to collect and start running in.
