A Witches life with Supras
A Witches life with Supras
The big day!
They'd washed and waxed her for me and cleaned her out ..
(And discovered a few small issues I needed to take up with the bodyshop )
One of the spats was starting to unbond itself already I hate those things .. nasty
A small (one and a bit cm's) mop mark on the edge of the bootlid.. unfortunately because she is low, this is quite noticeable as you stand along side her
And I can't capture it in picture but in certain light you can still see where Purple Witch was written in the wrong place !
At this point, whilst small niggley things, they weren't operationally vital and I wanted to get this car run in and at least get a little driving out of her before winter.. so I took her home
I spy a purple car hiding away
Running In ... god I never ever want to do this again! Admittedly, the last time I had to do this was about the eighties and it was a 1 litre Chevette with about 4 horse power .. downhill! I only had to do 500 miles then but at no more than 40mph.
Leon had been teasing me for months that I couldn't go over 30mph for the full 1000 and he was disconnecting the accelerator so I had to push it .. someone doesn't trust me lol
I was quite relieved when my final instructions were:
NO revving on start up, NO immediate pulling away.. idle it for a few minutes then pull away SLOWLY!
NO switching off til been at a standstill and not been on the accelerator pedal for at least three minutes
Yes to variable speeds between O and 65/70 (not 30! woooohooooo ) BUT (that stiggin BUT again) .. BUT NO pulling off lights, roundabouts, junctions in my usual style, O-60 in no less than ten minutes!
And whatever happens absolutely not over 3000 revs EVER !
To protect his hard work and torture me .. he'd set my boost controller to the 0.6 bar and taken away all the controls so I couldn't change a thing, even if I knew how to.
I drove her twenty miles then bonnet up and checked nothing blatantly leaking etc .. drove her fifty miles and checked again, then seventy miles more and checked again, then another 100 and checked again.. all seemed fine. Figuring she wasn't going to implode or spit her engine out, I decided to go show Jim and trotted off in 0-60 eventually mode up the M1. It's all 50mph restricted from here and so was the M25 so it was easy cruising. Absolutely every car that I passed or passed me, was smiling and waving .. and when I realised I wasn't on fire it made my day. Cars were speeding up or slowing down to see the bright purple car
By the time I got to Jims I had developed a faulty left indicator intermittently but that was my only issue! We cruised around Harlow some and Jim was shocked at how many people waved or pulled up next to us waving lol.. Rabster popped over to see the 'ribena' car
After some dinner, (Thankyou Jim n Rob) I set off home again at 0-60 eventually and by the end of day two I had this notched up:
Running in is killing me, I made a sticker along the lines of 'Running In, please make the most of your ONLY opportunity to overtake' but it seemed to encourage more boy racers than ever .. and I am somewhat volatile about being overtaken by Corsas, Clios, Fiestas and 106s... My steering wheel is suffering my grin and bear it stress each time they pass me lol and I have a list running of number plates that really pushed their luck !
There's still loads to do, loads I want to do.. but I need more time and money now lol ..
As it stands today, I have 96 more running in miles to do but she is back at the bodyshop and I am running out of time, so I think she will be at JAE pretty much as is for now and unlikely to have had her fluid changes and boost restored beforehand.
So to summarise.. seven months later, a lot of grey hair later, three times expected budget later.. we have gone from this ... to this
