Dunno about Leon trying for a six second car .. I think he might have built me one!
purplewitch Japshow was brilliant, I am still stunned by the attention she gets from a surprising sector of the population. I heard a man, probably in his 40's say 'If there was one car, I would buy right now and drive away from here, it's this supra' And one lovely older lady told me she loved it because when she got married in 1950 something, she had wanted a purple headboard and they had scrimped and saved to get one and it was exactly this colour.. Isn't that sweet? She had looked at the car for ages and ages. Girls obviously loved the colour but the guys weren't shying away from her eitherI think I am going to love this car ... a lot

This one's a UK but Leon was shocked the original was in there and wondered how I had got the power I had previously on that thing.. Dan said much the same when we were chatting about it so I am going to go with the guys opinion that it was not ideal... I can't remember what standard BPU generates on one of these but I think the old dyno was saying more ... admittedly it had done nearly 100,000 less miles at the time lol
Finally got around to reading this thread from cover to cover. Fantastic story, wish I had the time, patience and cash to let go of my car, or Roses for that matter, for that period of time. We just put my engine back together last night after changing the upper plenums etc. It's SO smooth and much faster now. so I know the feeling.
I haven't run a car in for ages, but the last one was my old 2.8 Capri after a full rebuild, it was a NIGHTMARE!
Just for those who were asking earlier in the thread, this is a MkIII Supra, my old one in fact, sadly RIP'd somehow by an owner who's had it since me
Dont be silly Sam.. your medals are well deserved !..stunning car you have there
The stand was really impressive at JAE.....Really nice cars on the stand
Great thread! Great Car!..... that is all.......
Wow October has flown by, can't believe it's been so long since I posted on here. The car continues to be amazing and the more I get used to her the more amazing I find her. She does still scare me a bit though and I could do without winter now preventing me driving her too much but hopefully by spring her run of bad luck will have come to an end too.
All the brakes have been replaced so stopping is slightly less of an ordeal and less scary for the people around me who no longer wonder if I am having a fit at the wheel from the serious vibrations lol.
There's still a few minor issues. Can't remember if I mentioned that she had frightened me a couple of times when the power steering locked on a roundabout, it was very intermittent and would never do it for JPS. There is one pulley that wasn't replaced for new at the rebuild and that's on my list to do soon and I was hoping that might be the issue but it's progressed a little now to Sachi stalling when you slow down to go round a roundabout.. more than a little scary when you have a car behind you that has seen you fly up the road and wont be expecting you to park, at an angle right across the lanes cos you have no steering. I was very worried about restarting an auto when moving but thankfully as reassuring voice with me last time said it would be fine so I managed to escape getting us all killed.. but .. I am on very strict instructions to let her cool down properly before turning her off, so this self switch off game is not a good idea. Various people believe it's a sticky/dirty idle valve, another common supra issue so just maybe she was almost stalling before, enough to lock the steering but not quite cut the engine and fixing this will solve this whole issue.. she goes back to JPS this week.
Bodywork wise, me and my cars have hit a run of foul luck.. I should be grateful that I have had over two decades of very lucky motoring with only door dings in carparks to suffer .. Last winter I drove Suki on a non supra weather day and got tapped on the rear and we spun around a lot, causing some cracking to my paintwork on the front spoiler. Hiccup seems to have developed a very nasty scrape on his rear bumper that I know full well I didn't do and Sachi... well she has her own chain of disaster. I've missed an absolutely huge tailgate on a van and scraped a spat which I had repaired quickly and was glad it was just the spat, the woman drove into her the morning of JAE which has done some damage I can't afford to repair just yet (the bumpers broken in a couple of places where it ripped off its fixings and it's cracked a line under the headlight) and then the week before Ace Toxo and Dan-Turismo turned up for tea saying what's happened to your car? At lunchtime that day I had been outside looking at it and it was fine, during the afternoon someone had knocked a massive chunk out of the paint, down to metal and causing a lot of flaking all around it on the rear wing, just behind the drivers door.. I can only presume the paperboy bashed it with his trolley as I am not on a through road and we don't get many passers by. So that was an emergency trip to a bodyshop to get that fixed firstly before Ace and secondly before it got waterlogged and spread the damage. .. Well it was more a call to Leon, some tears and my saviour sorted all ... even though he was actually on a flight to Florida at the time!
If you're around chat box a lot you'll know that I have on several occasions lent my friends Hiccup or Suki but Sachi is different. I have let a couple of people have a drive of her with me there, before all this work was done but I could never have lent her to anyone. I am extremely reluctant to let anyone drive her .. to the degree when JPS's bodyshop guy called to say she was ready and he would take her back I screamed NOOOOOOOOOO, JPS will come get her lol.
I did however let Jim (Jsj24uk) have a drive of her last weekend, it was dry and sunny and my chosen road wasnt too busy and he has more qualifications for this than all of us put together. His face was an absolute picture! I suspect she is a lot more hard work than he is used to driving Dufus but he seemed to quite enjoy it
Over winter, I plan to finish off the engine bay, all the nuts and bolts that needed replacing but I wouldnt let them wait cos I wanted to drive her, I'd like to get my rear lights tinted, there's a couple of mechanical things Leon says we should do and of course keep hunting for my clear engine cover and silver shiny fan shroud ... along with a massive list of things Mplavery added to my wishlist lol
Nice work sam....now you need to get a lock up so sachi is tucked up for winter!!
