No, u take off the air filter, and put a cloth over the whole that still gives the engine alot of air, but holes not big enough to let any foreign object in.

Risky idea if you ask me, I agree with Dan, K&N's about £36.

As long as it's properly secured then could well do the trick but for the sake of 30 odd quid i'd rather go the K&N route.
