I agree with your point about them being a pain in the **** to work on! Early ones are prone to headgasket failure aren't they? Doesn't sound like a big issue but the engine has 2 heads (so therefore 2 head gaskets) and being a boxer engine they are on the side, so you can't take them off without dropping it as the suspension turrets are in the way... It even makes changing the sparks a pain!
