The rubber had seen better days too, you can pull the inner and outer metal parts about separately just with your hands! New one is much better but it will underdrive the accessories slightly by being smaller won't it? Which is fine, lends itself to a higher rev limit.

I've realised I don't have the wiring connectors for the gearbox. It's only the speedo sensor and the reverse switch though so nothing major. I was expecting the plugs to be the same on the LS400 gearbox as they are pretty standard across Toyotas but apparently not!

Reassembled the drive train today. Only dropped the gearbox once lol. Decided the way ahead is to swap an auto rx7 flange onto the tech2 prop and drill new holes 15mm towards the back on the gearbox mounting bracket. That gets the box far enough back to have the shifter near enough to stock that the trim all fits.

Yeah, it's difficult with my arm but it makes for a good workout lol. I wish I had a transmission jack though!

Good news is I've found an auto rx7 prop in MK! Happy days. Might go and get it after work.

I cut up the auto prop last night to get the U/J off the end. Mazda didn't design them to be replaceable so once the U/J is pressed into the end of the prop the metal surrounding it is crushed/pressed in. So there's no way you can just press the joint out! Whereas the tech2 one, due to it being a custom job, the U/J is still pressed in but it's then held in with circlips.

So my plan is to cut out the U/J with the auto flange attached (which I've done) and then press that into the tech2 prop in place of the one that was on it. If that doesn't work I'll take it to the prop place in Luton that Phil/SamB used and they can sort it out!!


Contrary to my last post the gearbox mount didn't need any holes drilling in it, there's enough slotting/adjustment in everything to get it to all fit together. So very nearly ready for an engine now!
