I think they're a Chinese seller, with stock held in and dispatched from the UK. The second reply back, when I said it's unacceptable for me to post to China, was that if I post to the UK address (that was on the packaging) there would be no-one to deal with it, as it's a dispatch location only, so I must post back to China. Which is BS.

That being said, I'm sure I'll find I don't have a leg to stand on and even complaining won't get me anywhere. I'll try it anyway, as it doesn't hurt, but not expecting anything to come of it

UPDATE - nothing new with the mod, but eBay sided with me over the seller refusing to accept a return to a UK address, and awarded me a full refund!

Now to decide to flog the Lexus nav screen or not. Part of me really wants to do it, but the other part of me, the perfectionist part, says if I can't have it work exactly as I want, which by the looks of it I can't, then there's no point....

At least you got your pennies back which is good.

I'm retrofitting full OEM NAV next summer. Maybe something to think about?

Are you Matt-C on LOC?

I am, yes.

I don't want the stock nav though Ray. It's old, antiquated and out of date. Plus I don't want a remote control taking up my cupholder space.

What I want is a 7" touchscreen, that runs TomTom Navigator (the classic style) and a reverse camera plumbed in, so that selecting reverse automatically switches the AV input on the 7" touchscreen to show a rear view, and then flicks back to TomTom when reverse is disengaged. Coupled with that, I want it to turn the 7" touchscreen on and open the nav housing with ignition ON, and turn off the GPS and close the nav housing with ignition OFF (as it would the standard system), and also for the 7" touchscreen GPS to autoboot into TomTom

Don't want a lot do I?!? Big Grin

And that's the problem, I don't think I can combine all the above at the same time. I can have it with a 7" touchscreen, possibly running TomTom (if I can figure out the software hack), and maybe even with the reverse cam, but not with the auto on/open and the auto off/close with ignition.

Or I can have the auto on/open and auto off/close, but would need to use a Sony NAV-U unit which means no 7" touchscreen TomTom and no reverse cam.

And I'm a picky fooker, so I want it all!

I see,

I like OEM. Some strange obsession....

The auto open and close should be pretty straight forward I guess. Don't know about the autoboot in TT. I only specialise in Mac and haven't got a clue about Windows or CE.

I've done the reverse camera on a 5 but on stock NAV. I've been looking into various wiring diagrams on Toyota/Lexus and they don't seem to be as complex apart from not having a lot of wiring in to make retrofitting easy.

I'd say keep the screen flip up thing and make it happen.

The auto open/close isn't the problem (that's just three wires on the nav unit to cut into the stereo wiring) - it's making the GPS unit turn on an off with the ignition/auto open and off again with the ignition/auto close. That's the key part. That will only happen if the unit supports power on and off with 12v - which the Sony NAV-U's do, but the chinese 7" GPS I bought doesn't.

I originally got my idea from the one mattlaw did, and he's advised me it can't auto-power on/off, but with a bit of creative wiring you can basically "move" the power switch from the device to the open/close button on the nav housing - so when you press the open button to open the nav, it powers on the GPS, and when you press it again to close, it powers off. It's a good comprimise, but not exactly what I was after. I'm looking for automated. Bit like the mirrors - great they are electric, but I still have to push the button to make them move. I'd rather they open on ignition on, and close when I lock the car with the remote (which can be done btw, I just haven't done it yet)

Understand where you're coming from and what you want. I've not spend enough time researching this.

I'm new to Toyota/Lexus and find it hard to work with the IGN switching everything ON or OFF. I'm used to working with systems that shut down a certain time after the car is locked.

I hate it atm that I can't fold the mirrors with the IGN OFF. Same for the seats tbh.

BTW, you don't want the mirrors to fold and unfold at lock and unlock as the gears will be knackered in no time. Ask me how I know....

Every time I get in the car I fold out the mirrors, and when I park it, I fold them in. So if they did it automatically, it'd be no different than doing it manually.....

Wouldn't a car PC of sorts be the best option for what you're looking for?

I've got remote fold on my mirrors and have done for years - everything still works perfectly!
