2tongues So how hot are these rods?, seriously 3 to 6 months is a long time to cool something!!

Its not just a matter of physical heat i dont believe its the radiation decaying away as well.
Dont get me wrong their still highly contaminated when we remove them from the ponds to ship to Sellafield but they are far away from becoming critical easily,

Now (and sadly, predictably) they've got erupting volcanoes and it's snowing.

toxo Hope Jason's brother's ok...

Yes Simon is ok at the moment, he had to walk for 3 hours to get home when the quake hit as they shut down public transport in Tokyo.

although things are starting to get worse, people are panic buying etc.

He has said if things get worse than he won't mess about but will just up and leave and come back home!

We will see though............

Airport is still running at the moment, although its manic as people are getting out. He will get a flight/boat out of there if he tries and then just head back here!

Quote taken from driftworks

Things are fairly normal business wise here for us anyway except for rolling power outtages and some auctions close to the disaster area being closed.

We have been buying and shipping cars everyday since including the day of the big quake, the disaster area is only north of tokyo and the rest of japan is unaffected.

Ports were only closed over the weekend while they assessed damage, we have had ships leaving with cars on board since the weekend.

No ports we use including Kawasaki, Yokohama, Nagoya and Kobe suffered any damage or had any cars damaged.

Sendai port was hit very hard though and pictures were shown around the world of many damaged cars with lots on fire at the port, that was in SENDAI we do not ship from Sendai port EVER. These pictures were all of New Nissan cars waiting to be loaded form the Nissan Factory.

Auctions are mostly all still running.

Business as usual.
