Which colour would the live dull for number plate wire be, which colour wire is the earth, and which colour should the live bright for fog wire be?

I'll rephrase actually, because i understand most of what you said so i'm not a completely lost cause : so i realise i need a new bulb obviously > so i assume the dual filament bulb holder has two live and one earth, yes?

earths will be white with black line.
and if your doing just the rear light mod you can do it all in the boot yes.

Now I've done the fog to brake light mod but I've done it on the boot hinge and it all works fine
I've started to do the fog to tail light mod, I've wired the black-red wire to the green-black wire on the licence plate light, but I'm not getting light when just the lights are on but the fogs and brake light works fine? Have I done something wrong?

Do you mean the diodes? Yes, direction is vital.
