Dark Samurai Lee looks very nice mate! Why do you have sat nav controls without sat nav? And do you still need the key in the on position for the start button to work?

Thanks mate Smile

I still have the remote as I need to get a replacement centre console from a non navigator model.

As Andrew said, the push button start is one of his kits so doesn't really need the key at all. As the steering lock is a requirement of the MOT though, we had to keep the ignition barrel and therefore the key is required to release the steering lock.

Plenty more mods left to pop on the car, but just need a mild day and my 3M tape to arrive Smile

Marsdendean So you still have to put the key into the barrel, and then push the button.

How come you did not go for the smart entry, is it because you have a standard alarm??

I think it's more because of the steering lock, as he said before it needs to be in place and functioning to pass an MOT unless you do something fancy like replace it with a solenoid if that's possible.

Thanks mate Smile I do indeed have a spoiler, and rear light covers, headlight eyebrows and a rear apron. Lots to do Smile

Exactly this. What's the point in paying for keyless entry when I need the key for the steering lock anyway Smile

The car will start without the key being in the barrel, but the steering lock kicks in so you won't get very far

They are the full type with the circle in the centre which I have colour coded to the body.

Could carbon these badboys up too, but I don't think it would look good.

ormi since when does the steering lock get tested??not in my manual it doesnt...

Really?! I'm sure it was posted somewhere that it was a new requirement?

This could be great news mate! Can you confirm 100% that it isn't an MOT requirement?

Edit:

Found the post here: http://www.outlawjapclub.co.uk/forum/sho...egulations (post 3)

Quoted as:

Bit more info from an MOT tester thats been on the course.

"Tonight I attended what is known as an MOT seminar, basically the head honchos from VOSA go to each area, and talk about the MOT scheme, including changes to the test.

As I said in the thread about the new EU directive, as soon as I knew what was changing in the MOT test I would post it up. These changes are to be brought into the test on 1st January 2012, not before. So here goes...

Steering lock operation - Steering locks not engaging when the ignition key is removed will fail."
