MR2 GTi-16
MR2 GTi-16
Right cheers for that, ill make sure its a uk one. Can i not use my switch from my old rad in the new one? Or do they fit completely differntly?
I have to remove the foglights, one of the lenses is smashed, and the housing is all cracked up. I am going to replace them with aftermarket ones, I dont see the point in spending 60 quid for secondhand ones that may well get smashed again
Nah the switches aren't interchangeable. Irritatingly the electrical plug is the same but the thread is different. Rogue are selling replacement rads now that don't have a tap on the top for bleeding so watch out for those! They fit and work but bleeding is really messy.
£60?! I have a spare set in my garage I think (with intact mounts). Never heard of them smashing before either, the lenses are like 8mm thick! Must've hit something pretty hard!
Well im going to have to take the front end all apart anyway to change the rad. I was to strip it down and make sure there isnt any major rust around there, so while its off i can do the fogs. I wanted to try out the aftermarket ones i have as they are round, so will look a bit different. If its no good i may come asking for your spare set.
Any reccomendations as to where i get the rad from. I guess the cheaper ones are likely to not have the bleed screw on them
I know of 2 MK2s that have round front fogs, I'll see if I can find some pics for you.
If it was me I'd probably shell out and get a Toyota one... You'd be talking about £200 though! Rogue ones are £135.
Because you have a UK car you should just be able to get one that'll fit from any old motor factors I'd have thought. There will be unipoint ones etc.
I was hoping more around the 100 quid mark not double that. I dont want to go to toyota for it, they would tear me a new a***hole. I dont mind spending the money, but thats just a bit much for me.
I found this on the bay. In the pic it looks like it has the bleed screw, if thats it just above the n/s outlet

Yeah, looks like it. The complication with the bleed screw is that to bleed the car correctly you have to add a length of hose to it and suspend it above the car, and not all of them have a tap to attach a hose to. Bleeding the MR2 is a little more complex than most cars
Might be worth phoning around some of the specialists or breakers to see if they've got a decent one lying around?
I could do. Im not going to do it before this weekend anyway. It keeps around the right temp, it only seemed to go a bit high when giving it a thrash. So by my thinkin it should be ok for the short run to ace cafe and back again.
I may just order the one off ebay. Id rather have new than secondhand. Ill also have a read up about how to bleed the system

Those 2 guides differ in that one of them tells you to keep the car as level as possible, the other tells you to elevate the rear as much as possible. Either will work if you're doing it right. Oh and it's all the same 3S-GE to 3S-GTE. The trick is that when bled correctly you will have coolant in the 2 hoses at the front, up to the same level as the radiator cap at the rear. If that isn't the case then you have got an airlock, regardless of how much you think you have bled it completely.
