I would well recomened getting on the 50mb BB with Virgin, currently I am using the 20mb service, and its solid and stable.
I use newsgroups to download, and get full 2034kps all the time, only problem is the capping at peak times. But its still faster then anything you can get from ADSL.
Virgin are also currently testing 500meg. And are always working on upgrading thier network. Soon everyone on 20 will be put up to 50, and those on 10 will be put up to 20.
Ring up Virgin and haggle, I bet you can get free installation. Or if not they will give you money back on your first bill. Just threaten to go to sky. Works everytime!

Saraj Saying that

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/websales...o?id=15208

the offer now includes free instaltion and activation !

so the 65 quidco casback would be all mine !
That's even better!

I've heard about newsgroups before but don't know much about it, exactly what are they and what can you download - that download speed is really good! Feel free to PM if that would be better Smile

parthiban Didn't know it existed but does appear to be available:

http://www.broadbandwherever.net/product...2Aodex80AA

Looks quite expensive though and at 3.6Mbps not the fastest connection, similar to mobile broadband at the minute. What's it like in the US?

Has been available for YONKS, longer than ADSL / broadband. It's not very good though and is really only an option for places in the middle of nowhere with no other connectivity options.

Saraj which is what u pay for, u wouldt get that on a adsl line

Really? I do

Saraj yh will do, i just dont want to get it and then realise rapidshare have a speed limit,

Well they will have a speed limit, everyone does. I seem to remember that with Rapidshare in particular free usage is speed limited and premium membership is required for the limit to be 'removed' (where in reality it will simply be raised).

I personally wonder how long Virgin can keep this up, their cable service will go the same way as ADSL has - it will be come oversubscribed with contended bandwidth. Bandwidth is not limitless and when purchased at Virgin's level which is around tier2 it's phenomenally expensive. Virgin are simply not big enough to write their own ticket when it comes to stuff like that, they will still be purchasing their transit from 3rd parties.

I worked for them for a while.

The up front fee's were to cover some of the costs for the N router and for the install. It was originally 80quid up front but should be able to get it done for free now if you ask them nice...or threaten to leave:thumbup:

They never did a self install because it was the flagship product....they wanted a tech to install it...make sure it was working ok etc.

They wanted as few problems as possible, so didnt want Tom,**** or Harry installing it so less bad press/bad reviews of there flagship.

And yes 100mb should be going live over the next few months

Gord How do you go about getting the cash back then ? thinking of changing to Virgin myself

sign up to quidco.com

and click through the link for virgin, then couple months down the line the money goes into your quidco account and then you can choose to transfer to bank account or amazon vouchers
