Le Mans 2011 - 8th June - 14th June
Le Mans 2011 - 8th June - 14th June
Finding a cheap ferry is proving problematic. LD Lines don't operate the Dover -> Bolougne route anymore, so I've been looking at Dover -> Calais. P&O have an offer on if booked before 22:00 today if you sail on the 'spirit' ships (i.e. Spirit of Britain or Spirit of France) of £30 each way which is the cheapest I can find it. Saves about £36 in total.
I am looking at
Outbound:
Wed 8th June 2011 08:10 (Arrive at camsite about half 3 in the afternoon)
Spirit of Britain
Return:
Tue 14th June 2011 16:00 (leave campsite at about 11am)
Spirit of Britain
£60 today, £96 tomorrow.
Equivalent from Seafrance is £81
Equivalent on Eurotunnel is £127, and you don't get to have a nice fryup
Right, a bit more info on costs. Obviously the ferry is covered above, there's no reason why you would have to come on the same journey as me if you can't get the same length of time off work etc. It's 4-5 hours from Calais to the chateau, and remember that the time's an hour ahead in France, so if your ferry departs at 08:10, and is 1.5hrs, you arrive at 10:40.
Accommodation:
We will be staying at the Château de Chanteloup: http://www.chateau-de-chanteloup.com/CHA...Tarifs.htm
Their system works on you booking a pitch (for up to 4 tents) and then a fee on top per person. The pitch is €16.5 per day (which would be split between however many people are sharing it) and then it's €11.5 per day for each adult. So, with 4 people sharing a pitch each with their own tent that would be €94. I am going to book a pitch this week, so it would be nice to know how many other people will be sharing it! The accomodation can be paid either on arrival or upon leaving.
The race:
For the event itself you'll need a parking ticket and a general entrance ticket. The best car park to be in is the White car park, a week long ticket for this car park is £41. It's no big deal if you can't get a white car park ticket, it just means more walking to the track. The general entrance tickets can be bought from the ticket office at the track on the day, which is generally the cheapest way to do it.
You can buy your packing and entrance tickets from http://www.justtickets.co.uk/
So, by now you should have:
Booked the time off work!
Booked your ferry
Arranged your accommodation with me
Booked at least your parking ticket, if not general entrance as well
Now would be a good time to look for a deal on euro breakdown cover. This is a bit more difficult for those of us with old cars
Just to remind everyone that your welcome on mad Friday to come have a look at our car
