bounty` i hate the fuel consumption I get from my IS!! It's so much worse than my last car (mk2 golf gti 16v running 2.0 16v ABF lump from a mk3 gti, 170 bhp)
Know exactly what ya mean mate,thats why i,m selling mine already it just doesnt justify well to me anyway owning one.I really liked the look of the is200 so i bought one but the fuel it drinks,god i used to think my civic type r was bad
And with the civic its was a flying machine the is200 does my head in a times how flat its feels even in low gears when you put your foot down it just drinks the fuel but no real power at all.
Ok so its a comfy car but why oh why did lexus give it a thirsty straight six engine with 150 bhp when they surely could have up,d the horse power or just put in a 2.0litre 16v engine.
Even my mates 325i m sport beemer is better on fuel,its just a nicer car not to mention quicker.

Funnily enough the germans have moved the game on so far that their normal petrol engines can match the economy of the Lexus hybrids........

The engine in the IS is so old it's ridiculous, and that's why it's so poor on fuel. In general the japs are a bit like the americans in that they don't really do as much R&D as the europeans, that's why even now fuel economy in jap cars is pretty poor compared to the germans.
Funnily enough the germans have moved the game on so far that their normal petrol engines can match the economy of the Lexus hybrids........

To be fair fuel in general isn't the biggest expense, someone doing 10k miles a year in an IS will have an annual fuel bill of £2500. A car that averages 35mpg would cost £1735.
As much as I agree it burns everytime I have to pay about £100 to fill the tank, changing the car purely to save fuel really needs the costings analysed as it may not be that worthwhile (with the low mileage I do it really would make no sense at all)

My thoughts exactly. With all these threads recently of people complaining about the IS fuel consumption and jumping ship it had me looking around at what else I could have possibly chosen....
...and I've come to the conclusion that there is nothing viable for me at all.
I need a big-ish car with 4 doors, I want it to be luxurious, reliable, good looking and not something you see on every street corner.
Unless I'm willing to fork out our big $$$ there's nothing out there for me.

That's so true, the E46 3 series is starting to look really tired now simply due to being so common, was never a fan of the way the last gen C-class looks and the A4 is a bit dull and I prefer RWD. Of this sort of age and price range, the IS is the only interesting choice.
