I was driving my lexus is200 today and all of a sudden it started misfiring, no engine light came on until I got near my house then the engine light started flashing and then stopped, the car is still going but you can actually hear the misfire, I do not have access to a diagnostic tool right now, does anyone have any ideas what it may be or what I can do to check?

Could be a spark plug or coilpack. Would need an OBD2 reader to find the engine code to say which cylinder is misfiring mate.

To check what DarkS has recommended and he could be spot on why not remove a Spark plug at a time, you can then find out what one has broken down.

this might be a dumb question but would I remove the spark plug 1 at a time while the engine is running or no?, also would the car not misfire if I removed 1 spark plug and coilpack?

Yes remove one at a time with engine off if the engine does not change as it is currently running then it that one that is faulty.

Best to leave it to a dealer or have a ob2 reader plug in to find the code.

What age is your car?

Yes mate OBD2 from eBay are alright. Where abouts are you located? And Remove one coilpack at a time by just unplugging the connector on top of the rocker cover. If you unplug a working one then the engine will cut out. If you remove the faulty one the engine should keep going...

thanks guys, I will give that a go, just want peace of mind really, if it is a coilpack it will put me at ease as they are not that expensive to replace, Dark Samurai I live in Northampton, why do you live near me?, I will try this and see what happens, hopefully it is something simple, there are so many obd2 readers on ebay, any particular ones you recommend?

No Ian it's from 1999 because the earlier IS200 had OBD2 ports.
No mate I live in dartford was just wondering where you were located to see if anyone would help you out if they lived nearby?
I dont recommend any mate but will have a look in a minute when I'm on my computer.
