Yes, very well done boys, good work. It's always satisfying to have a crack at something new, (I'm stripping and overhauling a charger this week!) and doubly satisfying when the parts are so cheap! It reminds me I should really pay some attention to my little hatch as soon as JAE has passed. Been running with no 'stat, so no fan, for months, and only one front wiper. Just ran out of tax too though, so need to sort that before it can drive again. How are the LS seats coming along?

Confusedad: It was a tough call to make, but the Supercharged IS200 is being retired. Confusedad:

Well that intial startup highlighted a few problems, it was chucking black smoke out the exhaust, idled lumpy as hell (would warm up and try and drop revs and then pull it back up to around 1500 again) and the rev counter was cutting in and out.

With the MAP sensor and idle control valve plumbed in correctly most of that was sorted but it still didn't like idling and the rev counter was still dropping out. Fortunately all that took was a new set of spark plugs and it's now ticking over nicely :thumbup1:

So, we have:

Replaced headgasket + bolts
Replaced thermostat + gasket
Cleaned the head, reground the valves + seats, cleaned up the mess and old burnt bits of head gasket, replaced the valve stem seals
Degunked the rocker cover
Replaced the sump + gasket
Replaced the water pump + gasket
Replaced aux belt as the old one was cracking
Replaced steering joint
New oil, oil filter, coolant, sparks
New radiator
New battery
Reset valve clearance
Bled and cleaned front brakes which were in a terrible state!

All for under £200 I think. I did have to buy some tools to do it (I didn't have a valve spring compressor for example) which I haven't included in that price, though. And used lots of brake cleaner!!

Some bits, old and new:
[Image: 298874_10150279827001644_689086643_82245...2063_n.jpg]

Old radiator:
[Image: 304966_10150279827211644_689086643_82245...4052_n.jpg]

Nothing inherently wrong with it, but someone gave me a new rad and it seemed a shame not to fit it!
[Image: 320576_10150279827476644_689086643_82245...1569_n.jpg]

Head off, discolouration on the pistons directly matched discolouration on the valves and exhaust valves that didn't seal. New water pump visible in this pic:
[Image: 305102_10150279827756644_689086643_82245...0930_n.jpg]

Valves, springs etc all out along with the knackered sparks:
[Image: 311707_10150279828156644_689086643_82245...3508_n.jpg]

Head stripped before being cleaned (you can see we had started cleaning carbon debris from cyl 3)
[Image: 299929_10150279828346644_689086643_82245...6337_n.jpg]

Had to change the sump so gratutious shot of crank!
[Image: 293377_10150279828631644_689086643_82245...4929_n.jpg]

MOT is at 3:15 today... I don't expect it to pass but it will at least give me a list of things to fix!

I thought that is what MOTs were for?

Yeah it needs a bit more love... one of the rear brake cylinders is shot and it's got a snapped suspension spring. Then in the process of removing parts last night I knackered the rear brake hardpipe and snapped a pinch bolt off in a front hub.

Getting peed off now, it's never going to make it to JAE!

It didn't make it to JAE. It needs a replacement front hub after my attempts to drill the pinch bolt out just made a mess of it. Everything else is sorted though, suspension springs replaced, rear wheel cylinder replaced and I made a new brakepipe to replace the one I killed. The next stumbling block is that I can't find the V5, so I wouldn't have been able to tax it even if I had fixed all the mechanics. So now with a replacement logbook on the way I should be mobile by the end of the week Smile

Lexuspat I thought this car was to save u money lol u seem to have spent more time fixing this one then driving it

Although I have been thinking about buyng something like an old mini to do up

I don't particularly want to 'do up' this one, just make it work. Running total cost so far is

£75 car
£129 bits to do the head gasket and sump etc
£50 service parts (oil, filter, sparks etc)
£40 suspension springs
£8 wheel cylinder

So that's about £300. I probably could've got something better for £300 but I've had fun mucking about with it. I think I am slightly wearing rose tinted specs because I know how much more that would have cost me to do on the MR2!

Then on top of that there's MOT and tax which is £71.50 for 6 months.
