I like this idea so may when my upgrade comes for my phone change to samsung and get the torque app have a play with that and go from there and maybe then sort something better out
Jim, what was that screen you got in your old set up video? How did you manage to get it in there, power leads etc?
Obviously this came from a laptop or something similar but the screen mounting should be virtually the same? Is there a tear down of the sat nav unit available, and I'm gonna need to find the 7inch bezel
You can just buy a 7" screen with VGA input and fit that?
That's all very well mate, but I'm still confused as to how i would get andriod running through it, and get it to fire up automatically with the ignition?
Can you not get a VGA or hdmi output lead for the tablet?
That way you could get a touchscreen screen and just plug the tablet in inside the glove box so you can take it out whenever you want.
I like the idea mate, and it would certainly make putting apps on etc a lot easier. Kinda doubles the price a bit (i think!) Any suggestions on a cheap screen, I've searched on ebay, but i'm not sure why i'm only getting a few hits on 'VGA 7 INCH SCREEN'
Thick moment. Also, would these just power from the vga lead, or could i hard wire it? Auto on and off?
I was going to say search liliput.
You'd have to hardware the screen, same as you would a satnav though so it'll turn on and off with the car.
That way though you could keep the system regardless of the unit you have.
Just thinking out loud you could fit apple tv to the car! Tiny unit hidden away, hdmi output to the 7" screen.
Then use a myfi unit to attach it to the Internet on the go, wireless mirroring of an iPad/iPhone, and you could use a Ethernet to USB adaptor to attach a hard drive in the glovebox/boot/USB stick
A good option if you already have an iPad or iPhone
