My Lexus IS
I ****** hate this car!!!!!!
Everytime I fix something something else goes wrong!!
So today full set of discs and pads all round, easy job I thought, fronts easy as pie. Rears pain in the baws!! Gettin the discs off past the drum shoes was a nightmare. So all built back up and took the car a wee spin, all the discs squealing like mad and smoking. Eased off a wee bit after a mile or to but not great!
Think it's the rear calipers are seized but I gave. Useless ****** car!!!!!!!!!!!!
Gutted mate it's a reasonably easy fix though!
So tonight after work got the rear brakes stripped down. Think the calipers are ok, the squealing was coming from one of the retain springs and pins on the shoes, it was rubbing against the hub plate that holds the wheel studs. Got that one sorted and built back up but still getting a rubbing noise.
I think it's the large dust covers that sit behind the brakes the big metal covers.
Question is do I need these?
Also I replaced the 2 front calipers last year along with the front lines, bled the brakes but pedal feel is really bad. Are you supposed to bleed the master cylinder? If so is it the nipple on the alloy block?
On the rear of the disc is a groove,
If you llok you will see a circular plate fits inside it (thinks its to stop dirt getting in there) when it gets rusty it starts to rub on the groove on the disc.
I've had n still get from time to time a rubbing/scraping noise and end up taking them off grinding it back a little until it happens again
It may be that
The dust cover is just that for dust. It helpful but not essential.
To bleed the abs block you need to pressurise the fluid tank. But you shouldn't need to, the brakes will stiffen up a bit more once driven I find.
Just remove the cover and see it that sorts it if not then keep hunting, have you spun the disc with out the wheel fitted so u can see if its that, that's making the noise
Finally got the brakes sorted. Found out the new pads were too tight on the carriers and not sliding. Out with the grinder job done
First time driving the car in months with good brakes and the. Charger workin sweet forgot how good it is lol
Next on the list is mot for the end of the month, I know I need to rear tyres but hopefully not much else.
Pictures next time lol
