Doing the right thing though, having everything to hand before starting toe project on the car. Nothing worse tan waiting for parts with the car on the ramps.

Thanks, yeah, that's one thing I wanted to try and achieve here. I'm sure that something will be found during the process that's missing, but I wanted to choose and take posession of all the major parts that I'm going to need, to save the garage having to run around doing that. I've been through the list with Charlesworth, and that ended up in me ordering an intercooler (they had a spare one before, but not now), some gaskets/seals for my engine (to replace when the internals are changed, a job that might as well be done properly).

Also, as I said, when they open up the 1G-GTE they can also see what's needed there - e.g. shells etc.

At some point the pistons will have to be test-fitted to my car and measured, seeing if we need new piston rings etc, but that sort of thing can't really be avoided and hopefully there will be plenty of other work to be getting on with while they're waiting for those.

Trying to avoid any delays that can be forseen. Of course unforeseen delays are inevitable, just trying to minimise the impact of those !

A lot of people are having the piston rings changed on their 3SGTE's as they are quite old now and metal fatigue is becoming an issue, TGT have seen a few fail recently so if they are out you may as well get them changed at the same time, it could save you some hassle later??

Right, it looks like the 1G-GTE is pretty knackered. Head gasket has gone and everything is caked in oil. Not possible to tell yet what state the rods and pistons are in, it's still in the process of being stripped down, so we'll see once they can be cleaned up.

So long as the engine wasn't run for long in that state I would assume the pistons/rods would be OK? The rest us surplus to requirements anyway........

My thoughts exactly. I await more news as it's stripped down and cleaned up. Fingers crossed !

russelllinn Will you know this week do you think?

Thanks - not sure.

Here are some more bits and pieces. New head gasket for my engine (mine is fine but might as well replace it while the engine is in bits), new oil seals and new gaskets for where the new downpipe will meet the exhaust/cat.

I need to double-check that I've got all the right bits here, and that nothing is missing.

Have you got a new set of head bolts/studs mate? usually reccomended when removing/replacing the head? Not sure on the IS though if its one of those things that are usually done? Smile

Looking forward to seeing it all on your motor now mate and hopefully the pistons etc will be ok to use
