Bandit Have you got a new set of head bolts/studs mate? usually reccomended when removing/replacing the head? Not sure on the IS though if its one of those things that are usually done? Smile
No, but I will ask, thanks. Steve hasn't mentioned those to me so I'm assuming he doesn't think that's needed. I'll check though.

Quote:Looking forward to seeing it all on your motor now mate and hopefully the pistons etc will be ok to use
Thanks mate

Must admit Steve I dont like reading this thread but I cant help myself.
Its just because the more I read it the more I want to do something similar.
I would like to go the way Stav has went but would also like to see yours when finished.
Then you never know what's going to happen next
Good luck with it mate

Worth checking, I've read that it might as well be done at the same time, then you know they are in top nick and got the strength behind them, you can stick with OEM bolts or ARP are always a good bet, I would go with whichever is cheaper as they'll both be strong enough.

Is the HG a thicker one for lowering the compression or are you sticking with the standard compression ratios / using the GTE pistons?

I wondered what you were going to say there, if I had made some sort of horrendous mistake or something :crying:

Ah that's ok then

Personally I'd prefer to keep the original engine rather than transplant something else in. But all credit to those who do go down the engine swap route, it would be boring if we all liked the same thing !

I just asked and basically they say the Lexus bolts tend to be pretty good but it depends on the condition of them when the head comes off, i.e. sometimes they swap them and sometimes they don't. I wonder whether the bolts might as well be swapped just to be on the safe side.

Nope, just an OEM one, should be using the GTE pistons with their different compression ratios.

Latest news on the GTE engine is that although it did look like the head gasket had gone, it now looks more likely that it was just condensation from the car being sat around not having been used for a while.

Maybe worth while then your safe in the knowledge!!

You have taken every other precaution in your build making sure it's right first time why stop here

Good news with the GTE engine then bud, i expect you were anxious to find out and now a bit relieved Confusedmoke:

Totally out of curiosity and nothing else, are you going to be dressing the engine up in any way while it's in bits like polishing it up?

All looks like it's coming along nicely though, your house must look like a parts store with all the bits floating around

No. It would be a very nice idea, but that would probably take a fair bit of time in itself to do properly. And given that my Lex is my daily driver, I don't want the car to be off the road for any longer than necessary. I guess I'll just have to try and clean it up myself as best I can !

Thanks, yes my kitchen does look somewhat like a Japanese car parts warehouse

I may be wrong but its still a 2L, still the same displacement, still the same amount of exhaust gases?

so i dont see a problem?
