I can tell you from first hand experience with a nexus 7 that the difference is night and day between the 3.5mm out and a USB DAC, but it's up to you.

I'll have a look in to it, I need to grab a hub at some point anyway and one of them DAB sticks too, might as well throw in a DAC and see what difference it makes.

Not much, finished my fascia. Far from perfect, bit rough, but it'll do for now. Gonna have a play with a couple of different designs some time soon and make a better looking one. It'll look fine from a distance, but a bit ropey up close. Need to postion my cradle so it sits in the right place, at the moment it sits too far back at the bottom, so need to angle it slightly. Popped to town to see what I could find off the shelf regarding DAB USB's, USB hubs and DAC's. It all seemed overpriced and the shop guys just looked confused when I explained what I was trying to do, so they were no help. Gonna have a google search later and see whats about.

Need to get my head around tasker and what I want it to do and what it can do. I'm clueless at the moment. I decided to not bother leaving it in the car and having it power on and off with the ignition. I'd rather not wake up to a smashed window! So for now I just plug it in and clip it on when I get in the car.

For the time being though it's as good as installed. When I get my hands on a new amp, I'll upgrade to Tablet Install mk2, which will include a gutting of the sound system and redoing properly (try out a DAC and wire my speakers up correctly), internet in the car (probably a 3g/4g dongle, need to see what data deals I can get), more storage (USB stick), hands free (dunno yet, need to research it) and just a general tidying up and making it look like its been there all along. I'll get some pictures up of how it looks tomorrow.

Far from perfect, bit rushed, but it looks ok. Needs a bit of gasket or something to hide the slight gap at the top. Tablet is slightly bigger then the fascia. Already started work on a second fascia, gonna take my time with this one.

looks smart that! out of curiosity, if you have a double din that can play films, you have to have it wired to your hand brake, do you know if its the same sort of deal with a tablet?

I'd imagine it's the same. Although I don't yet have internet in the car, so it don't matter for me atm. The only moving pictures you can have on show in view of the driver while the car is on the move are trip information or car information. To be honest you'd have to be a special kind of special to watch a film or youtube while driving down the road!

I want to set mine up so that when it's plugged in it auto plays music and opens up Torque. I just need to get my head round Tasker, I'm a tard when it comes to that sort of thing!
