*** Update ****

Got up to JDModified yesterday and although it was a slow day a have a few other bits to update so here it is.

The last few weeks i have been working on a few bits that are now prepped and ready to be welded onto the buggy. These have been left with them and will be added in the next week or so.

The first thing was to get the harness bar made. This was a bit of guess work as i didn't have the buggy with me to check fitment. I roughly measured it and checking fitment yesterday it is pretty much spot on.

I Also settled on a final design for the rear light clusters and i decided to put the reverse lamps in the cluster as well. So i just need to add the rear fog, this will be placed under the number plate in the middle of the car.

This is what they looked like just after they where lazer cut out without being cleaned up.

I got them made from 5mm steel so that they will have a 2.5mm radius to keep mr IVA happy Big Grin

They have all been rounded off and have bolts ready for the lights to be fitted in place.

Also been working on the side vents for the rear. These came with raised strips over them which i really don't like so i decided to remove them. Im still working on these and i almost have one done but they take alot of sanding, checking, sanding again etc.

The adjustable spoiler has also been welded in place now and doesn't look to bad to be honest. Yes the spoiler itself is MDF but it is just a jig that was used to get the correct spacing of the brackets. The finished spoiler will either be made from Carbon or green Acrylic. Not too sure yet........

While i was up there yesterday the only thing i really managed to get done was to grind a couple of mounts off the back that i no longer need and where in the way of where the harness bar will go. I really didn't feel 100% but had to get something done.

I will be up there on the 10/11/12th of December to finish off the seating and steering. We have decided to make up some steel box section seat rails for strength rather than just bolt them to the floor and the steering position is just all wrong. Plan is to cut the steering off and lower it and move it over to make it more comfortable and in the correct position.

I have taken the radiator away with me as next on my list of things to work on is the mounts for the rad and the fan attachments.

*** Christmas Update ***

Well as i said in my last post i had thursday/friday off this week to work on the buggy and im really happy with what we got done. This was the last time i am working on the buggy till next year now as JDModified are closed between crimbo and the new year and i won't have a chance to get up there before hand. This doesn't mean that i will be stopping work on the buggy as i have taken measurements/pieces away with me and i have a huge amount of parts to get on with!

Anyway, when i got up there on Thursday it was great to see that James had a few hours spare during the week and he got the rear light clusters and the rear harness bar all welded in place. Gives a better idea of what the rear end will lokk like and i think it looks great, im glad i got rid of the hamburger style rear lights as they are not my cup of tea.

The aim over the 2 days was to get the seating in its correct place and get the steering coloumn removed and repositioned as im not happy with its location.

We started on the seating and working at a relaxed pace this was done and all in by the end of the first day. Now the normal way to fix the seats is to fix them through the checker plate floor but we both wanted something stronger as at the end of the day safety is a big issue with this thing!
The seats are angled inwards slightly to give more room for the centre tunnel but these will be straightened up later if there is room to do so.

Then yesterday we turned our attention to sorting out the steering. I was a bit hesitant to cut the steering off but after the outcome i am so happy we did. The whole steering assembly was removed and cut away from the car and pedal box. After it was all cleaned up i then sat in the buggy and held the steering assembly at a comfortable position. Everthing was measured up and a new connecting piece made up. Then with me sat in the car holding it in the correct position it was tacked and then fully welded up.

While i was there talk turned to gear linkages and that was clearly on the list as one of the next things to work on. James mentioned that the mr2 linkage was work a look at as of course they are designed for a rear engined car and he said that the throw was relatively short also. There was a mr2 in the workshop that is being broken down for parts and james has very kindly given me the gear linkage and cables from it for free!

I roughly positioned these in the car and all i can say is wow!!!!! Its a perfect fit between the seats and the position we have planned for it is just spot on. Its right next to the steering wheel and changing gear will mean i have to move my hand off the wheel about 6 inch's if that. I tried the seating position and all i can say is i am actually in love with this thing now! The seating position is just amazing, i can honestly say its the best seating position that i have tried. Its very snug and everything is just perfect.

The whole area back from the gearlinkage will be boxed in to create a armrest/handbrake area taht will just improve the driving position even more.

Im going to my work workshop today to begin making up the frame for the gear linkage and handbrake and will post pics when i have them.

While i was up there i also got the radiator measured up and will complete the framework over christmas (this has already been underway) and i have the arch brackets welded up as well so i can begin buying up the arch's and getting them ready for fitting. I have a few plans for the arch's that are a bit different from the norm in terms of fitting them and im hoping that it will work out but we will see.

Also the other day i managed to get some Gaz coilover brackets/springs for the rear coilovers for an absolute bargain on ebay Big Grin

So i can continue getting the bits laser cut that i need to finish off the welding to the rear chassis.
